Jaking car up cause it not to want to run?

Well today i jacked the rear of my car up so i could change my differential gasket and fluid, after i got the cover done i put the car back on the ground and went to start the car and back it up back into my parking spot and it didnt want to start, it only starts when i put my foot on the gas and keep it on there but as soon as i take my foot off the gas it will idle till it gets below 500 RPMs then die out on me, the car ran fine when i pulled it out of my spot and ran fine when i had the car up on the jackstand, the only reason i ran it on the jackstands is because one of my budds came over who hasnt heard the car run so i started it and let it run for maybe half a minute then shut it off, so would having my car jacked up cause raw gas to get in my engine? i really need help i have an appointment this week to get the cars exhaust put on.

Hmm I had this problem with my old firebird, there was alot of junk in the gas tank and it clogged up my fuel filter when I jacked the car up.

Check your TPS, one time I jacked my car up in the rear too and when I put it down the idle was all kinds of messed up. Somehow the TPS got messed up and didn't want to keep the car running unless I was giving it gas also. Its weird, but thats what it was for me the one and only time this happened...

Yeah I can't stand it when the car is slowly being let down and then all of a sudden my jack decides that its not going fast enough and puts the car down hard. Its never bounced but I still can't stand it when it happens!

just cuz it looks new doesnt mean its good... take it off the car and blow in it.. if its hard to blow throught then you need a new one. it should be able to flow freely

Don't assume that using the air compressor on the inside of the gas tank blew out all the possible debris in there. Those tanks are much smaller, and have fewer, smaller holes in them, for debris to get blown out. With ASV gas tanks in Iraq, we literally had to trowel and pressure wash the sand out of the gas tanks. I'd also recommend replacing the filter.

Re: Jaking car up cause it not to want to run?

i let the car run today and it idled out fine, at first it was the same sympotoms. she would die with out my foot on the gas, but as the car ran i was able to take my foot off the gas and it would only die if i put the car in gear or if i turned on my heater, after awhile this all stopped and the car idled just fine like it did a few days ago
