My Third Generation 'Project'
So, my parents just split up and now that moneys been rough and I've had to part with some of my horses since I'm fully paying for them now. Dad decided to make it up to me. I got my permit 6 months ago and me and dad began our search of my dream car. Our original plan was to get a couple and throw a decent one together.. well we got carried away ;]
This was the first one:

I had wanted a v6 to save me money and because I don't plan on beating on it, ever. So this was a v6, it was rusted out but it was the beginning to our 'project'.
Next came:

This rusted v8 that my dad wanted to race. It had brand new parts underneith that we plan on putting my 'main car'.
Thannn:

Dad liked the looks of this v8.. body wasn't so bad.
Next was:

This rusted v8 and soon to follow:

THIS v8.. which he had quite a bit of fun in.
So with 4 v8s and a v6 we thought we'd have enough.
But, we had a hard time choosing a body to 'build on' until
I found my babyyy;

Yep, this v6 with ONLY 90k (and Im the third owner), will be my road car. And she's alll ready! Registered, stickered, insured.. I've just gotta get my license (I'm waiting for my date back). I recently sent her to the shop to have her carborator rebuilt, new water pump put in and new radiator and new seals.
Anywhoooo. Go ahead and comment away. We had a budget of 3000, which we made, surprisingly (we had a lot of connections) and please throw in things you think may look cool on my car, keep in mind.. I'm not driving her for speed.

Re: My Third Generation 'Project'
like the look, id lose the bra and the rims, maybe get some nice stock iroc rims or even some z28 rims, id get the newer style taillights and tint the windows and she would be perfect!
Re: My Third Generation 'Project'
Really clean car, looks good! I would just ditch the bra, tint, and lower it... You wont break 250$ and it will look really good IMO.

Love the car man, looks awesome. I'm in the same boat starting with a 2.8. You'll soon want a V8 don't worry.

Burn the bra, pull the front plate if ya can, and trash the tacky thing on the rear window.
Otherwise, very nice.

Re: My Third Generation 'Project'
Oh, the louvers are staying ;] I'm going to tint the headlight/taillights, and put those super bright blue bulbs in, I'm going to pull the additional front bumper piece off because it's broken so it will be completely original looking and I don't know about the tires ;] Everyone thinks there girly, and since, haha, I'm a girl, I think they make her (my car) look feminine. I don't think I'm going to tint the windows right away, I would first need to replace all my plastic lining stuff.. and I don't have to much money from all my horse events anyway so time will tell ;p

Re: My Third Generation 'Project'
I agree, keep the louvers
Is it a manual by any chance? Even better if it is, still looks like a nice ride even if it's an auto. I regularly got 25-26 mpg in town when I had my 2.8 with the 5 speed, loved that thing
Had louvers too

Re: My Third Generation 'Project'
I agree too- I never liked them on Firebirds but louvers always seemed to look good on Camaros to me.
By the way that's how I got a v6 too- all the v8 cars we found were garbage, their engines barely ran or burned oil, paint was ruined, interiors were shredded, dents, etc. For the same price my car was in mint condition.
Wow- I'm blinded every night by people that put those horrible "super bright blue bulbs" on their cars. They're trying to copy real (aka expensive) HID lights and failing miserabily- and blinding me too. Please be considerate to your fellow drivers and don't do it. Here are some better (and legal) options, and besides, did you know that the human eye doesn't see as well (or as far) with blue light? https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/5...-question.html

x2
Get real HIDs or just better factory style bulbs. Tinted covers + cheap blue bulbs = ten foot visibility at night.

Re: My Third Generation 'Project'
I planned on getting HIDs, they have an awesome deal right now, buy a pair and get a pair free. I would like to be able to see, for my own safety. Maine's not the place to have crappy headlights ;p

Re: My Third Generation 'Project'
1. Sounds a lot better then a V6 car (which is very important lol).
2. Easier to swap a 350 or 383 later in life (unless LS1 is cheap by then).
Also, seeing how fast you can get up to the speed limit off of a green light is fun

Re: My Third Generation 'Project'
For a real headlight upgrade, you're looking at over $500, you need lenses with "cut-off" and those certainly aren't buy-one-get-one-free, then upgraded wiring, etc.
Again, please dont. But if you do, I'll be sure to high-beam you when you come the other way.

Re: My Third Generation 'Project'
1. Sounds alot funner with a pair of turbos (which I'll be adding this spring lol).
2. Easier to cut corners with better handling (and still gives better weight bias than an LS1).
Also, seeing how fast you can get up to the speed limit off of a green light is fun, especially when the guy behind you has a v8.

Re: My Third Generation 'Project'
I wanted a 60* v6 for 2 reasons:
1. Sounds alot funner with a pair of turbos (which I'll be adding this spring lol).
2. Easier to cut corners with better handling (and still gives better weight bias than an LS1).

Re: My Third Generation 'Project'
gotta agree here... v8 is king. it's not about how fast you're going, it's about how fast you get there.. haha
I'd throw a z28 body kit on it. nice find on a great car!

and by the way... twin turbo beefed out v6 will never touch a supercharged 383. haha

Re: My Third Generation 'Project'
Way off topic, but its just a matter of throwing money at it. There are 4-bangers that can spank a supercharged 502.
Besides, everyone knows v12s are king.

Re: My Third Generation 'Project'
Y'know there was a reason the NHRA banned turbos in top fuel. And in the late 80's and 90's People were going stupid fast with Grand Nationals and Syclones/Typhoons. Other guys couldn't keep up and started whining to level the field and stiffer restrictions came in other classes. The reality is it's easy to go stupid fast (and get there quick
) with a turbo setup, regardless of how many cylinders it's feeding. Blowers (including paxton chargers) are being eclipsed by turbos.
Sorry for the hijack. Tinted lights and brighter bulbs sound like a bad idea. You'll end up with normal intensity and purpleish-grey beams. I know it won't be as cool to you as tinting everything, but they make clear light covers as well. I saw someone retrofit some silverado lights on a thirdgen. I didn't like it but you may.
