There were factory a/c delete car's. Do you have the A/c switch in the car? Is there an idler pulley where the compressor would be? they could have just used a shorter belt and rerouted it to make it work

All 3 options are available to ya.
You can buy a cheap ac delete pulley on ebay. The TPI ones fit our engines. I've had one for over a year now with no issues. I think it was $30 shipped.
Or, check the classifieds and see if someone is selling a compressor. The weight reduction crowd sell them in there quite often.....
Or, be a cheapo and take a string to measure out a new belt layout. Then measure the string, and go to a auto parts store and get a XX.X inch belt.

That's cool, didn't know that (about the TPI delete pulley fitting)! Bobby I went on autozone.com, put in your 90 Firebird, clicked on External Engine, then clicked on Belt, and they list a belt for both AC and non-AC cars. So you might not even have to measure anything! Just go there and tell them you don't have a/c.
Plus if I remember correctly (I don't have serpentine, but I wish I did), there should be a sticker under the hood by the latch, or on top of the radiator, that shows a different belt routing for non-ac cars, where it just skips past the a/c compressor.
Did you buy the car without test driving it, or was the a/c compressor on there for the test drive and then missing when you bought it?

got the belt at auto zone 16.99,plus tax.I will keep the ac type belt and we can use it later if we get the compressor, otherwise it will be a backup for the 90 firebird with 3.1. this swap is going into a 86 bird that lost its motor.some older guy was going to put a 350 with manual tranny and cut the exsaust manifolds off, sold the heads, through the injectors and runners in a pan with nuts and bolts and left them to rot in the rain. The body is good, interior fair with wear on cloth seats.she's a hard top base model.has the rear louver.the factory am,fm,casset player that still sounds good.even the antena.all glass is good, electric windows work great.rear hatch motor is dead.missmatching tires,so i'm looking for a set of nice 15in.stock wheels

Looks good, can't beat an '86 Firebird
For the hatch motor, do a search on here for a guy named "lonsal", he owns http://www.top-downsolutions.com/ and makes/sells hatch motor parts & rebuild kits (and sells ones that are already rebuilt).
