save your self some money and buy 87 octane. 92 octane is only required for high compression engines(i.e. 10.0:1 or higher). your engine's compression ratio is approximately 8.8:1.

I agree with calicamaro on that, the cheap stuff will do you fine for all but a race engine. I do 10 tanks of cheap to 1 tank of high grade to clean everything and burn alil hotter but power wise? nadda... Theres such hype on how 90+ will give you engine so much more power and people swear by it but honestly try it for 5 tanks, go test the car by the 1/4 on reg and then do it after the 3rd tank of 90+... don't think you will see any difference at all.

high octane gas doesnt burn hotter in fact it burns slower and cooler, thus resilting in a condition your car wasnt programmed for, this effect is negligable......It wont matter on your V6's just the same. It just leaves less sh-t in you fuel system and internals. If you need to run 93 octane gasoline, youre usually not happy about it . This is my catagory. The you talked to is a sh-t head and I would reccomend not listening to his B.S. anymore.

It will not hurt a thing to run the "good stuff".CaliCamaroRS and 91redbird are right.
Our cars are designed to run on lower octane fuel. But the higher the octane the better the fuel will burn.Which equals more spunk and better gas mileage. Here is a example....
In june I drove 180 miles to Wooton Kentucky. I filled up in Point Pleasant.I used the 89 octane.During the drive down I used about a half a tank.Coming home I filled up with 93 octane(it was the same price as the cheap stuff here).I used 1/4 tank to drive 180 miles home.My 2.8 climbed the mountains like it never did before.
Going down the cruise was dropping a gear just to get up those big *** hills .Coming home it didn't.Atleast not as much.
When I can affored it I fill my RS up with the good stuff.Unfortunatly that isn't very often.
It is best to run a higher octane in a high compression engine. If you run the cheap stuff in a high compression it will rattle, click, clang yada yada yada. Not all the time though.
A friend of mine lost a great engine due to cheap stuff in a high compression motor.

Because of the more controlled burn with higher octane, you can advance the timing more, since there'd be less pre-ignition. Most aftermarket chips require a minimum of 92-octane gasoline because of their "new" timing curve.

Tom and Kevin are correct. I used 87 in my car until I put the chip in back in April. I now use only Mobil 93, and not only does it run smoother and feel better at part throttle (and get about 2-2.5 MPG better), obviously it helps the chip to work to its full advantage. Do you NEED to run 89 or 93? No. Can it help? With gas mileage, definitely, and I think it helps the car run smoother too. Just my 2 cents

And consider this: how much extra per tank does it cost for 93 over 87? 15 cents a gallon difference times a totally empty tank equals $2.30. That's a burger! Eat one less burger a week, and you AND the car will be healthier

Jason, that's just how I consider gas prices! That's why I don't bother "hunting" for the best price.. the extra driving & aggravation aren't worth $2.30.

Hey want to hear something strange? I could never, EVER, use Sunoco gasoline. My car acted like a tired slug, and it would ping like crazy under everything but light throttle. Out of all the other gasolines, the car ran best on Amoco 93. I wasn't near "my" Amoco station one day, so I had to surrender and get Sunoco 93.

All I can say is- Wow! Apparently with the MSD box, my car loves Sunoco gas. I guess my old ignition system couldn't ignite it before? Now the Sunoco is beating out the Amoco- go figure. Now I'm trying to get Sunoco every chance I get.
