2.8 v6 swap to ???

Ok I got a 1987 camaro rs, its just not enough power, I'm looking for power but still reasonable on gas, should I do a 350 swap? I had a 93 camaro but the 3.8 also didn't feel like it was enough, I'm really just lookin for the best bang for my buck! Thought about turbo charging the 2.8, is it worth it?

Re: 2.8 v6 swap to ???

if you want bang for the buck, sell it and get a V8 car. A v6 to V8 swap is not easy or cheap because of the number of things that need to be replaced

yes, it can be done. no, it's not smart

please read the stickies in the V6 forum and the engine swap forum

You bought a V6 car, enjoy your V6 car.

or sell it to somebody that will... there's lots of good V8 cars out there cheap. If you dont think you can sell the V6 car for any decent amount of money, then it might not be a good enough platform to justify spending any money on it anyway

Re: 2.8 v6 swap to ???

i'm also wondering how you had a 93 with a 3.8. Very very unlikely.
Probably a 3.4... radically different engine

Yes the 3.8 didnt come around til later. That is a hard swap also. I hate to tell you but I agree with 58mark. In the long run it would be cheaper. Or buy a v-8 car, build it up and keep your v-6 car for gas mileage and use it as a dd. Just a suggestion but I know $ can limit our plans.

Yes it was the 3.4 sorry I got it confused, and the 87 is a solid car, interior is in great shape and exterior is pretty good, just a little rust and nees a hood, the back corners got bent, I really want to keep it an RS because everyony does the v8 swap, I'm just looking for more power

I think once you see the cost of an engine, transmission, springs, and everything else that is involved, you're change your mind.

I dont' think as many people have done that swap as you think, and the ones that have usually say "wow, never again"

I guess if you have money to waste, be my guest

You can always build the motor, or put a 3.4 in it. Or like some users have, put a turbo on it.

I've done two turbo cars... I don't suggest it unless you have a lot of time, money, patience, and another car to drive most of the time.

This. Pilsbury knows what he's talking about, there is a sticky at the top of the V6 page about installing a turbo, but it's not easy, cheap, or short.
