Anyone want EGR blockoff plates?

Making myself some EGR blockoff plates today, and have the first one done, turned out pretty well, and since no one manufactures them for our engines afaik, I was wondering if anyone might want to buy some if I made more, I would be looking to get $15 a pair, I will post up some pics of the intake manifold one I did today, and the header/exhaust manifold possibly.

Why do people want to get rid of something that is beneficial to an engine's longevity and economy?

Re: Anyone want EGR blockoff plates?

Dude, i was just about to post up a question "Can i really cap off the air tube that goes to the check valve in a 2.8" Is this what you are referring to?

Id LOVE to buy EGR cap off plates!

This is what i want to know if it can be capped off, here is the pic and of course yes the tape came loose, if i can cap it off and the engine will run ok i will go to the hardware store right now.

I also think this is "Air Check Valve" not sure.. Can i "Cap it off" w Hardware store stuff?

That is not the EGR, that is the A.I.R. system.

Can i cap it off? Or does it "Need" to be on. ?

Mine, as you can see, separated, and when that tape gives - and it did - it run like it got a lot of problems, barely runs right at all.

Im ready to get to cappin'........

Will do! specially since mine is BROKE and runs like S**t with it like that

Sounds like if i go to hardware store and "get to cappin'" and cap off the one that came out, ill be ok ?

That "Check valve" needs to stay, right? Where is "Smog pump?" thanks!

I'm very interested in the cap. Put me on the buy list. I wont install it for two more years (when my car ages out of testing)

Now that i think about it, i wonder if they would fail it based on a visual inspection?

1. vacuum EGRs tend to suck
2. overly complicated vacuum hose systems suck
3. if I wanted fuel economy I would have bought a civic
4. I really don't see how dumping carbon deposits into your intake system improves longevity
5. EGR does not open at WOT, and I believe low speed as well, to me its just more clutter, weight, ugliness, and complication under the hood.
6. carbon deposits decrease intake manifold volume, flow capacity, and build up on valves, all bad things for performance.
My , I know people are highly divided on the gain/lack of gain derived from EGR removal, so probably something like 50% of people who read this will disagree with me, but to each their own.

84 Camaro 2.8, the "A.I.R" system (???) SEEMS to make it run GOOD when the tape holds up (lol yea the pipe broke) and HORRIBLE when off, as it just now separated.

Im serously ready to go to the hardware storee and find brass caps that fit, then "Clamp" them on as tight as i can, the hose and the pipe, to "create vacuum" i mean its very a lot of pipes, and it IS broke and it SEEMS to make a difference in how it runs.

Smog pump - idk
vacuum hoses = there are a lot
that one seems to make everything run BAD when its off and GOOD when its on, my engine probably needs a few other "Sensors" but thats the main thing.

I have more pictures of the bay
Inspection is not a concern.

Yes it would, but you could do one of two things, put it in between the EGR and exhaust manifold, or between the EGR pipe and intake manifold, or both, or you can put it on every time it gets inspected.

PM me if still interested.

This. They look to be thin enough to just be bolted on with the EGR it's self.

Re: Anyone want EGR blockoff plates?

If it would be something i could pop on and off once a year, i would consider it

How much would an EGR delete hurt my mpg?

Re: Anyone want EGR blockoff plates?

Will "Capping off" the A.I.R. tube and hose help my car run if it was the source of a "Vacuum leak" before i "capped" it off? 84 2.8

iv made these before... made mine out of polished aluminum after i traced the intake hole so its nice and smooth and lines up correctly

Re: Anyone want EGR blockoff plates?

u only need to make one. bolt it on the intake side were the tube connects behind the tb . u can make them out of really thin aluminum and its not even noticable.

its also very easy 2 bolt removal to remove it if u need to to pass smog

honestly the vacum operated egr valves are cheap to replace if they go bad and they dont hurt performance at all .

if ur getting carbon deposits inthe intake that means ur motor is full of deposits already, do a seafoam treatment and it will stop

the only reason i see to get rid of the egr is for ppl who use the stock manifolds and go turbocharged, the backpresur ein the ex system can push open the egr while under boost and wreak havoc

I've never seen this, especially when you apply pressure to the top side of the diaphragm, to hold it closed.

depends on the backpresure to boost presure ratio. most turbos systems have more presure preturbine then they do in the manifold.
also if egr is not commanded there wont be any vacum/boost presure on the top of the egr

i did measurements on my car with a presure gauge pre turbine and i think the egr would start to open with about 30psi in the manifolds. its been so long i couldnt tell ya the exact presure it took though

Re: Anyone want EGR blockoff plates?

If you're talking about exhaust pressure, that's an easy fix, plumb in the exhaust side after the turbine.

The thing about using diaphragms to hold valves closed is the multiplication of pressure that happens, if it didn't wastegates wouldn't work.
