Do i or do i not need ZDDP in my oil with the 2,8L V6 Carbd?

I am confused now. Does my 2.8L V6 have the "lifters" that NEED ZDDP? or am i JUST FINE with any API SM 10W-40, dont add any ZDDP?

Im SOO tempted to add "2 ounces" OR use an oil "High in ZDDP" because i THOUGHT my 1984 2.8 V6 had the kind of engine that NEEDS ZDDP. Its carbd, so how does it have a "Catalytic converter" - it doesnt, right?

I use Maxlife 10W-40 right now. Sometimes Syntec 5W-40.

That and im about to go buy copper silicone, and i have steel BBS to RTV up ino the air tube to block it....

?

Yes, you should put in a Zinc additive since you have a flat tappet camshaft.

Thank you! Done. Will find and add it.

My next question is RE: The Thermostat. My lower hose "bust" so i need to replace it, and im thinking of coolign system flush (Block AND radiator, new Stat, and new Water Pump since the lower hose has to come off anyway.. and new "Upper" hose too, even though it looks and feels new and solid and not old and brittle as some hoses do, why not.

Is a "195-degree Stant SuperStat" ideal, is 195 what it is supposed to be ? If thats the OE spec, ill get that. Im not trying to "fooL" certain areas of the car, i also dont know why some peopel put in a "Cooler Stat" if the ECM is supposed to work w 195 degree.. if thats what she needs ill get the Super Stat, new gasket or a gasketmaker from permatex, designed for that.

Is 195 the right Stat? Thank you again.

This engine is going to get a freshen-up. Mark my words.

well autozone shows your thermostat being a 192 temp stat so 195 will be just fine. most chevys from my experience are 195ish thermostats

I would go to NAPA and get a 180 thermostat. I have a carbed 2.8 and it seems to run better and get a lil better gas milage running at 180 vs 195ish. Just personal preference though, you might not even notice any difference.

All engine oil has ZDDP.
The difference is how much.
