anyone with a firebird SE

ok, my dad was the original owner, and purchaser of my car in 1985. And he told me that he bought the middle grade firebird, the SE, and not the base model. Well, when i decoded the vin, it said that it was a base firebird. Now, it came with lots of factory options, t-tops, guages, overhead counsel, premium sound, trans am steering wheel, leather wraped shifter, etc. And i was looking on a website and saw that someone on the board has an SE, and it doens't have the T/A hood like most others do, i was wondering if there are any other ways of telling if my cars an SE?

I think i posted this question a couple days ago, but can't remember where i posted it under, and now i can't find it.

Send me your VIN...I have a Firebird code book here.

If you DO have an SE, hold onto it! Only 5200 or so were made in '85. Here's a question though...is it 2 tone? Did it have "Firebird S/E" sticker on the doors? If it doesn't (or didn't), then it isn't one. In '85 they changed the package a bit, and added the nice aluminum wheels (crosslace I think) and the door logos. Send me your VIN and I can decode it for you.

I've got the '86 SE model. It had the cross laced wheels but not the 2 tone paint. I had it all repainted so was mine a rare production model as well for 1986?

Well, I seriously don't think mine's an SE though I wish it was...ah well a base model looks good with just a spoiler!

I'll tell you what is another weird thing about my Fireibrd is that it is the only Bird that I have EVER seen that has letter writing in the outside door handles. It says, "Fuel Injection" on the handles. I guess they were really trying to push the inea of FI for that year? I don't know

well, like i said the VIN says it's normal. But, my car also had the alluminum wheels with the cross lace, my father has since taken them off, but they're still at my grandma's house. I don't have the SE decals, but the other website i went to didn't look like he had them either, also he didn't have the hood louver thingies, like the T/A. Oh and Mike my car also has the fuel injection lettering on the doors, 85 and 85 were the only years with those i think, cause my friends 87 doesn't have them. Yet the idiots decided to not cover my handles when they repainted my car, and of course they were painted black. i had to hunt the salvage yards, and find an 86 with the stickers on it, strip em, and place em on the bird. oh, and my car isn't 2 tone, it's solid black.

Hey, wild, I have those "Fuel Injection" handles too. I wondered why other cars didn't have 'em, thanks for the info on them just being an 85-86 thing! I always thought people yanked them off.

Mine's an 88, and no fuel injection tags/stickers on the handles. Anyone know if any company makes custom sets of those? I'd think it'd be easy, just sticker background, whatever you wanted on them, and gel topping...

If you didn't have "Firebird S/E" door logos on the car at least when it was new, then you don't have an SE. Those rims were available on base models too. Plus, the fact that you don't have the front hood louvers tells me it isn't one, either

Reno, I coulda sworn that I saw those once in Strauss Auto (like a Pep Boys). In fact I thought the owner of my car bought 'em and put 'em on.

Oh- one of those places like http://www.amesperf.com or The Paddock (3rd gen resto sites) might carry them too.

Yeah, i didn't think i had one, the only reason I asked was because my dad had once told me it was an SE, And then i saw a pic of someones and it didn't look like it had hood scoops. I think my dad was confused after 15 years of owning her, and also that he had ordered many options, almost all for an SE, but still didn't have one. Oh yeah, and just go to the junk yard, and hunt down an 85-87 bird and gank em off the doorhandles, then use superglue to install em.

I also have an 85 se that needs new door handles, I had downloaded this online catalog like 2 months ago that had them but someone erased it. As soon as I remember the name of the company, i'll let you know. I think the price was $45.00 a piece expensive???? Hell yeah!!!

I just sold an 87 Firebird SE, It was red and had the regular hood, cross laced wheels and two tone interior with some other options. It was a v6 car with a 5 speed. I don't think the car was ever wrecked or painted.
