important question...

i know you can modify the ECU to where you can control the top speed of your TBI Camaro by hooking up a switch and splicing the wire that goes to the VSS...can the same thing be done to the MPFI v6 or is 85mph my top speed??

Dude just b/c the speedo stops at 85 doesn't mean that is the top speed. Beleive me I've had mine past the 85 marker plenty of times. The needle just keeps going on around back to the 0. I don't think there is a speed limiter on the 2.8 MPFI's.

the governer on 2.8L's was set at 115mph, at that point the engine stops delievering fuel to the engine, and won't allow the motor to go any faster. So, if you hit 115, the car will start to sputter, and sound like it's going to die. You can splice the wire that goes to the VSS, and conect it to an on/off switch, make sure you connect it to a switch, because driving without the speed limiter on is bad on your transmission. But, once you're in 4th gear, I highly doubt it'll matter, so you could turn it off at say 100mph, and cruise on up the coastline at record breaking speeds. So yes there is a limiter, and yes you can get around it, and it's also considered by many to be an easy do mod, plus, on off switchs make cars look pimp. oh, and welcome to the board

you might want to know, don't know if you care or not, a while ago, (before the boards went down) we had a little discussion on v6 top speeds. WE know the 115 mph governer is there, but once disabled how fast can we go? Most people know that our cars will easily pass 115 mph, any day of the week, but i've heard that our 4th gear doesn't last long enough to get a top speed test or something. The highest i've seen was from Tom P with a 137mph or something. It seems really nice, and will destroy a lot of those hondas and TOYotas. Also because of our high rpm peak hp, it should help with a lot of pull towards yellow line, and give you a strong engine pull until redline.

Yeah, I've had mine to 118-120 before, thought I was gonna die, but done it. Maybe the limiter is a little sloppy?

just going on what i've beeen told. Also, from what i've heard certain chips will eliminate the speed limiter. So if you have on of those, then you don't have the governer.

If your speedometer reads 1-2 MPH fast at 35-40 MPH, it could easily be 5 MPH off at higher speeds. You were probably doing 115, but the speedo showed higher.
