V6 Engine Questions (again about 2.8L & 3.4L)

What are the main differences between these 2? I know the similarities like the same block & everything but what are the stock numbers (like HP) on the 3.4L? Since there are so many screwed up F-bodies at this one wrecking yard that doesn't allow self pickers to come in, in my town I was thinking about purchasing a 3.4L & bore & stroke the $hit out of it & really supping it up. Then I would swap all the stuff that is on my 2.8L onto the new 3.4L, since I know this will work.
Also would my headers made for the 2.8L work on this 3.4L?
Would this be my best bet to do this swap? Later guys

No they aren't. They are both 60 degree blocks. The 3.8L is a 90 degree block.

Nope, a place called Kennedy's Wrecking Yard. They have so many 4th gen F-bodies, it's not even funny. They've got so many engines that's it's unbeleive so after we move out of this house in about 4-5 months, then I will buy that engine.
Which is good for me b/c that gives time for me to save money for it & to finish my KITT conversion as well. I don't imagine more than $350 at my dealer cost for that engine & then I'll go completely through it.
Should larger size injectors go on something like that?

Stockton, CA about 50 yards away from Pick N' Pull. Stockton is about 45 south of Sacramento.

That sounds about right.
If you're looking for some 4th gen engines, Try So Cal Auto Wrecking on Alameda, in LA.
Ask for Marty.
He has 4, 3.4 engines for me available.

The 3.4 was Chevy's replacement engine for the 2.8 primarily because the 2.8's reliability is crap. This swap was popular in the early 90s S10s. The 3.1 is also a 60deg engine, with the same bore as the 2.8, but the stroke of the 3.4. Either one would be a good drop in replacement for a 2.8, I think the main difference would be price. The 3.1s are more prevelant in scrapyards because (I think) the 3.4 was only available in crate form. (might be wrong here).

I found this board while looking for 3.1 info. I am looking for a 3.1 as a replacement for my Jeep Cherokee's 2.5 4-cyl. (2.8 was the optional engine from 84-86)

All the heads, intakes, etc. will bolt up to any of the 3 engines.

You'll want to use the 3.4L injectors they are 19lb, or some other 19lb injectors. I'm running ford 19lbs cause they don't lock up if you ever run higher pressure with nitrous or something. Don't think you can bore or stroke the 3.4 cause I think its about maxed in that area.

Hi ALL,
Read the reply about the 2.8 3.4 swap made easy! I finally made it home with this car!
I'm VERY PLEASED I DID THIS!
I WISH I could post pics!
Email me, tho for any questions.
IF you want to see what this thing looks like, just open your 2.8 hood.
THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE! He-he!
I only used the 3.4 exhaust manifolds with the heat shields on it to keep engine bay cooler.
I even made a stud set up for distributor hold down! Ever try to get that bolt back in the hole, with the engine in there? I gave up and made teh stud set up.
Buy the bolt, that fits, cut off head, file threads, stick in the 3.4 block and drop in distributor. Then put the distributor hold down over the stud, add nut. Done!
Ask any questions happy to pass along the tails of encouragement!
I can;t wait to make wait to smog test, now!
And 14 sec 1/4 miles, I hope!

I just got my Firebird dialed in.
I needed to replace the Mass Air Flow Sensor and tweak the distributor.
ALL THE PROBLEMS ARE GONE, SOLID PURE POWER & THE FRONT END LEAPS!!!!!!
I am so excited!
DO THIS SWAP!!
Honest, it looks just like the old 2.8, he-he!
