Hi All,
Right now, I am swapping out my idiot light dash for a gauge package dash I already have.
A question has come up, if I have a 6 cylinder dash or an 8 cylinder dash, in my lap.

I was told, it was from a 6 cylinder.

Here's what I've got.

Tach 6,000 RPM, top.
Warning Red line is 4500,
Redline is 5,000

Oil is 0-30-60
Amp is 8-13-18
Water is 100-220-260

It's an 85 MPH speedo, cable driven, with yellow box, upper, behind speedo.

What do I have?
Need to use this guage cluster, as I just swapped the 2.8 for a 3.4 & I need gauges!

THANKS!!

I found out I have a 1985 305 V-8 gauge cluster.
Now, can I use the tach from a V-6 Camaro in this dash cluster I have?
Just change the face & needle, I'll bet hook ups are the same

(removes dirt from underneath fingernails, and puts shovel away from digging this up)

What is the status of this? Just because I changed my interior color is no reason not to keep us updated

edit: I've read your next thread dealing w/the tach.

Question: WhenI take the key out of the ignition, the tach needle lieks to move up some. Is this normal, or is it like the ast mini tach I had, where it wouldn'tread unless it had power going to it?

This has been driving me up the wall since 1975!
All our families old Corvettes (54,61,66 & 74) had the tach needle rest at ZERO when ya shut down the engine.
All the sudden, in 1975, I see tach needles resting at like 1,000 RPM when the engine is OFF!

I always felt that was a very tacky looking "detail" to leave behind.
I've since discovered that on majority of GM tachs w/electronic ignitions (HEI), that is the norm, needle resting above zero w/engine off.
I was really hoping that when I finally get my Firebird tach/gauge dash in that I would see a zero reading tach, when the engine is off & key is outta ignition. Sounds like I should forgetaboutit!

I don't think so. The tach setting is in the internal electronics of the dash. If you notice, aftermarket tachs come with a setting for 4,6,8,etc...because it has to know how to read the ignition pulses that it is getting.

Let's say it gets 1 ignition pulse every .25 seconds. It would take a higher RPM for a V8 to do that than a V6 and higher for the V6 than the 4 cylinder. Catch my point?

It's so funny how old my response above was about my 8 tach/gauge package.
the V8 gauge package has ONE detail that says "V8" car...
The oil pressure gauge reads up to 60.
A V6 gauge reads oil pressure to 80!
When the gauge package is in your hands, you can find the other clue...
The Tach processor board will also have an "8" on it.
One NEEDS the "6" tach processor board to read the RPMs correctly for a 6-er car...
You need to seek the 6 cylinder car for THAT part!

Karl, I still have tha textra gauge cluster from the 87/88 car. Need the tach from that? Just get me an address, & I'll try not to kill it while removing it.

My speedo only goes to zero if I back up. It sits at maybe 5mph with the car off. As far as I know it reads correctly.
