92-95 3.4 question

For those of you who have a 3.4 in your Camaro, could you take a look and see if you think the upper portion of the plenum is reversible (i.e., to move the throttle body to the other side of the motor).

Thanks,
Roy

if i'm not mistaken, i believe most people HERE with the 3.4 used the 2.8 plenum. are you referring to the stock 3.4 plenum????

Yes. I am thinking of buying a complete 3.4 for a car project of mine (transverse confuration) but I need to run the throttle body out - what is now - the back of the motor.

Don't forget, the motor mounts are different. I also think the thermostat housing is also in the wrong spot, and the bellhousing won't bolt up to a rear-wheel-drive trans.

TomP, after some research, i found that that a RWD trans WILL bolt to a FWD engine (as far as chevy 60*/V6's are concerned). BUT i STILL am not sure if a FWD can be converted to RWD. GMPP has some cylinder heads that specifically say "for transverse mounted engines" which leads me to believe that the heads are not interchangeable. so, i dunno, my head hurts

All the 3.4 bell housing bolt patterns are the same as 2.8 and 3.1 regardless of which configuration the motor was used (i.e., longitudinal or transverse) so I know it'll bolt to the transmission. I will have to relocate the starter to the opposite side of the block. I may also have to change the timing cover, oil pan, pulleys and brackets. I would really like to use the 3.4 aluminum heads and the intake system if possible. If any of the three (?) intake pieces are reversible, it'd make my project a little easier.

I'm completely unsure on the intake issue.. however, if you can get it to work, go fer it.. the performance numbers of those grand ams and whatnot are a hell of alot better than ours from what I've seen.. also, if you can get this to work I think there are some superchargers from 60* transverse engines now that I think about it... but I haven't really researched the transverse variants..

No problem. In my opinion, you're the 3.4 guy.
