You got the b@stard year... If you know how to pull codes, check for a code 46, which means you have a problem with the security module system. If there is a code 46, your engine isn't going to do anything until you fix it as the VATS disables the fuel injection.

If the engine has been swapped with the harness (ECM is part of the engine harness), and it's cranking and has spark and fuel at the rail but no fuel injection, check for the code. It's best to pull the codes anyways in case there's something else funky going on. At this point, it's one of a few things: Bad ECM, bad ECM ground, No VATS where there's supposed to be VATS, or there is a fault between the ignition module and the ECM and the ECM doesn't know the engine is turning over.

Did you check for codes yet? Are you sure that both connectors at the bottom of the distributor are plugged in fully and have no broken wires or corrosion?

BTW, how did you check for an injector ground pulse at the harness, exactly?

when you crank the motor without the starterfluid do you smell gas at all. cause one I do know is that our injectors poor gas into motor like crazy when cranking without a spark

Re: 1989 camaro wont start please help

the connectors are fully plugged in and i dont know if there is any broken wires there might be some wire under dash or something i just dont know where to start and i checked for the ground injector pulse with a test light by unplugging the injector harness and i found that i had power to both pink wires but when i checked to see if the green and blue grounded out there was nothing and i dont smell any gas at all but i have great psi to the fuel rail that the injector fit into

yeah check the fuses and if they are good i would check the fuel pump relay. if u turn the key to the on position and dont here a click from the driver side of the motor its more then likely that

Re: 1989 camaro wont start please help

I have a 1987 camaro 2.8 it will run if I pour gas in the intake. It has a new fuel pump...all sensors (except egr, mas air, fuel pressure regulator)...new computer...new relays...fuses are good...injector wire harness replaced...fuel pump runs...noid light flashes when I turn the car over. the car ran real crappy before I changed the sensors, computer, and fuel pump. the old computer had a burnt spot on the board...car still ran, but I changed it out anyway. I have good pressure to the fuel rail. I have good spark. I ran the codes...all I get is code 12 over and over....the code for no codes... Any ideas ???? I have owned the car since around 1998...I have put 3 engines in it...2 transmissions. It has sat more than I have driven it since 2005

Re: 1989 camaro wont start please help

it runs now ..still has some issues....pumped all the old fuel...flushed the lines...put new fuel and it started. it gets poor mileage...pops and back fires...does not want to idle. I rechecked the t.p.s. its in spec...fuel pressure is great at the test port (42 lbs. with a gauge) , I put a timing light on it and discoed the wire under the hood to disable the electronic advance but it seems to still be working even with the wire off ??? I have seen posts that say to ground the diagnostic pin on the port and run the engine like that to time it. I have also seen warnings not to run the engine with the pin grounded. will it damage the ecc ??

If you are having problems with fuel delivery and the car has been sitting I would definitely start with pumping the old fuel out flushing the lines and putting good fuel in.
