Call 800-831-0884
Northern Auto Parts.
Ask them for a new timing chain, water pump and new gasket set for the car.
I paid about $50-ish
Pulling balancer is not fun, but can be done. Go get a rental tool. Then go at it. Take off water pump & go get new one, too for a lousy $19. Rebuild all the front and go again. Use Black RTV sealant. Be careful of the bottom two bolts for the cover. They are 10mm, and very small. Seat cover first, then START those two bottom ones, then re-seat the t-chain cover. Then go at it with the rest of them. Then back on the pump. IT'll take a good day to do the job, if you observe & go slow.
Double check tightness of all hoses, when done!
Just be careful of the balancer. It'll be hard to remove, but, it can be done. IF YOU DO NOT FEEL CONFIDENT, TAKE IT TO SOMEONE!! It's cheaper than blowing your engine trying to save money.

The 82-92 Haynes manual tells you all you need to do for the job; there's no shortcuts. Be careful when scraping the old gasket off; you'll be scraping aluminum, which gouges easily. I use Permatex hi-tack "red" gasket sealant (in a brush-on can) for those gaskets.

Well, A$$kicker, how's the tranny kicker going?
Awaiting to hear your results.
Those "special tools" and lack of, really stink!
I need to get one of my cycles going for the summer of $3/gal gas.
It's already up to $2 in San Francisco.

$3!!!!!!!!! to hell with that. well, just this last week i've decided that i won't take my engine over 2500 rpm except when i get on the freeway. i can't stand getting 14 mpg anymore. hopefully now i'll be closer to 19 mpg.

Karl, i'm a lazy ****. i still need to get a couple gaskets. the tranny's collecting dust. i am a jack....
