Re: how much boost can a stock 2.8 take?
I would highly, I repeat, HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT doing that. I had this idea before, and asked STS about it. The turbocharger they said would be best for my the V6 was totally the wrong size and would have made boost at probably...10,000rpm. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but it still would have been a terrible turbocharger for a RMT set-up on a V6. The best way I've found to do the RMT set-up is like what project89 suggested. Or, get PaceSetter headers and DynoMaxx cat-back exhaust system, cut the cat-back exhaust pipe at a good place for the turbo, and have a flange welded there for the turbocharger. Also, having the piping ceramic coated should help with heat-retention, and, possibly, improve your spool-up time. I used to be in contact with a guy who had a RMT set-up on a 3400-swapped Cavalier. He was using a Blouch Performance turbocharger with a version of their Dominator 3.0 XTR billet compressor wheels in a TO4E housing, with a T3 Stage 3 .63A/R turbine section. He was making about 310WHP and 430lb-ft of torque with peak boost at 4,000rpm, peak torque at 4,100rpm, and peak horsepower at 4,600rpm. He was running 16-18psi. Hope this helps.

speak with this seller on ebay , he builds these, the wastegate and turbo are ebay specials , but if u could snag a kit with the piping oil pump and lines without the turbo and wastegate for a cheap price u could score a pretty good deal on a bolt on system
the reson i say see if u can get it without the turbo and wastegate is u can get a wastegate for 50 bucks and a decent sized turbo for the v6 for about 125 bucks
so if he knocks the price down considerably without those items it would be worth it
