Gas Mileage

Before Stat-16MPG
After Stat-20.5MPG

I still have to get a new O2 sensor. Just figured I'd share the difference between a 160 stat (before) and a 180 Stat (after).

how much was ur stat and where u get it?

------------------
1992 Firebird automatic, brand new engine/tranny/brakes/tires..paint is getting touched up- Medium blue

Mods that came w/car - New dual exhaust, maybe lowered cause the tailpipes (angled down 1 inch) scrape on driveway and so does front end..the accual fascia gets stuck if u go less than 2 mph! maybe new wires/plugs, and deff. a POSI unless the car came with the 2 wheel tire spin rear

Could you please explain why altering the stat from a 160 to a 180 made such a massive difference to your MPG figure.

Uh, simple...it didn't. Yes, a warmer engine will lean out the fuel curve, but 4.5 MPG worth?? Uh, no. Coincidence. The only way to truly gague it is to run 5-6 tanks with each stat, then compare.

If you did do that, then my apologies...but that would tell me something was screwed up hardcore with the 160, 'cause you can't gain 4.5 MPG by a friggen stat...

Sure it CAN.
How,
The engine is computing in a different mode, that's more fuel efficent.
Caused by hotter running engine, the way the factory designed the car to operate at, hot temps.
Your statement of several tankfuls is very correct, too.
Let's hear what happens.

Jason, I swear man, that much MPG worth. Reason why: If your car never reaches the point where your computer utilizes sensors, then you're in "Warmup" mode, where you're wasting fuel.

And get this: The 16MPG, was nothing but HWY, and the 20.5 is mixed City and HWY. I'm happy now....I mean with gas at $1.79 I need all the help I can get.

Also if your car is in warmup mode it will never lock the torque convertor which will really hurt fuel economy. I ran a 160 in my camaro and the tc still locked so I knew it was not in warmup mode. Modes cars won't run at 160 even if they have that stat. The rest of the cooling system usually can't keep the temp there.

Mine would stay right at 160 unless I was driving in the city, then it'd go on up a lil. I have a problem with sitting somewhere, looking down, and realizing I'm at 220....hope that 220 isn't too bad for the car.

No, it's operating correct.
I was just informed that:
Water boils at 218 degrees.
Our fans turn on at 220.
I recently was going thru water, alot.
NO leaks, etc.
NONE!
I asked radiator shop.
Was informed I was boiling water & it was evaporating.
So, last night, added 1 gallon of antifreeze.
Tomorrow (Sat) AM gonna see what happened.
I just took it for a long (from LA) drive with the family to Orange County for cameras & to say hi to my model to do photoshoots.
Milage was incredible about 20+. 70 mph most of the way.
Best milage is by "kissing" the gas pedal and keeping engine vacuum at about 15 inches.

I wanna get one of those lil gauges that measures your fuel economy. I seem to be getting even BETTER gas mileage now. I finally figurd out my gauge too. At the F that means I've burned 1/3 tank, 1/2 means about 2/3 burned, and Empty, of course is all of it. I used to be hitting the F at like 70 miles, and last time (new stat) I hit it at 92.4, and this time (maybe getting better) I hit it at around 102.3.....so I dunno.
