thanks, i think i might get a paint shop to do a little quicky on the hood where the sticker was (i mean re-do it but with paint not a sticker). my dad remembered the camera but forgot the connector to the comp so in wouldnt be able to upload them so i was like w/e, and hes gonna bring it home 2marrow or ill go get it from his work or something

1992 Firebird automatic, brand new engine/tranny/brakes/tires..paint is getting touched up- Medium blue

Mods that came w/car - New dual exhaust, maybe lowered cause the tailpipes (angled down 1 inch) scrape on driveway and so does front end..the accual fascia gets stuck if u go less than 2 mph! maybe new wires/plugs, and deff. a POSI unless the car came with the 2 wheel tire spin rear

camera should be here at 9 but in the mean time, would u guys suggest taking the sticker off and trying to place a new one on the exact same spot the other one was on? Should i get a decal shop to do it instead, should i take it to a paint shop and get the current sticker painted silver while it is on the car, or get the sticker taken off and it painted where the sticker layed?

Remove the hood decal and have your hood repainted to match. That "once" decal was the correct design but too small. The original 85-88 bird was somewhat larger.

There was a rare 91 bandit edition of the firebird put out by some conversion company and the bird died away with the birth of the GTA in 87. This means that birds came on some t/as up until 87. The bandit edition 91 has 1 bird on the hood, and some birds on the front lamps. There's a guy occasionally on the body board (i think) with one. Or you can search for bandit.

Although it might not be to everyone's liking I'm planning on getting on of the 2nd gen birds on my hood. They were actually filled in w/ colors, not just outline drawn. Just an idea.

3.1EyeCandy, was that the Macho Brothers & their TransAm package? I think they used to love the big 'ol Firebird sticker on the hood...

To El Guapos comment on putting a 2nd gen bird on your hood. I have seen that on the Trans Am hoods with the vents (3rd gen. I assume you meant) and it looked good. It was cut all nicely over the vents in the front. Looked bad *** , made me want to put one on mine, but I settled for the outline type. Just a thought. ..

The one you have on this hood is from the 70's.
I believe there was one on the early 3rd gen.
The bird went to the back facing hood scoop.
I was used on the early HO carb'd versions.
Remove this one, as it's outta proportion to the hood.

Actually there were two differant factory offered birds for third generation Trans Ams. The 83-84 models had smaller shutter incorporated bird on the hood bulge and the 85- 87or88's had the one we see here on this topic, the 34x34 outlined hoodbird.

Yea, I was referring to the 83-84 version.
They actually had another one later one, too?
This one looks too small, but...
I remember the cry of "screaming chicken", when they first came out in the 70's.
All one could do to a car, back then, was paint it, to go faster!
Like "Flowmaster decals" today!

He said his dad sold it, yes (ouch), but he only said he'd found a '94'.. didn't say a 94 what.. and I do remember him going on about how his dad was going to get him a saturn originally, so I'm seriously interested as to a 94 what =P

EDIT --- I did a little digging, and in a post on the appearance board he said it's a 94 Camaro.. so if it's a v6, I'm sure he'll stick around a bit since it's still our engine =)

$700 for head gasket job?
Damn, thanks for making me feel better about spending my personal effort pulling apart my S-10 Blazer engine to replace the head gasket and the heads with the MPFI heads.
STILL SEEKING A 700R4 TRANNY SO I'LL PULL THE WHOLE DRIVETRAIN!
Getting tired of pushing it back and forth across street. LOL!

hehehe...

ya it sucks i thought 700 bucks was a little steep but thats dealer. he said he knows a guy that might be able to do it cheaper, but this camaro was only like 300 bucks more and its in prestine condition, mileage is up there, but hey its a car till i find a good thirdgen right? atleast its an fbody i think it was worn before tho, it was sorta nasty when i bought it and keep getting worse and worse, i just thought someone put bad gas in and it wasnt burning right, then i raced my friend to 75, drove threw neighboorhood for like 5 mins to go back to my house, got out with my friend and it stunk SOOOOOOOO f'n bad i knew something was wrong, smoke was POURING out. well after a little convo with the pep boy guy i realize the worst had come true and i told my dad later that it broke going to pep boys to cover my own @SS and he said he had a ncie camaro i can drive for now. so i just got the tags for the bird, think title is soon and it should be gone in a few weeks or so and the 'maro will officially be mine. 2marrow looks like a wash/wax day for the 'maro

ill keep u guys posted..and keep ur eyes peeled for nice 3rd gens on the east coast for me plz!

Gotta tell ya...
Alot is the labor to get to the heads, yes.
But, once, there, the heads must be "rebuilt".
They warp, easy.
This was shown to me, as my 2,8 MPFI heads were planed flat, for sticking on my S-10 Blazer.
The heads, also, had to be rebuilt, first, before they were planed flat, too.
That adds to the cost of the job.
I only had a quickie rebuild (knurled guides, one valve guide replaced), as I am seeking a 3.4 to slip under the hood of my Blazer, when my finances can make it happen. These heads will be good for about 10K miles.
Finding a working 60* V-6 700R4 tranny, outta the donor car, in my price range, is the main mission, right now.
Most stuff I'm using is left over stuff from my 2.8-3.4 swap (that's where my swapping MPFI heads came from). Only outta pocket cost, has been for the intake gasket set @$20.
I can get a reground 2.8 MPFI cam for $25 (with lifters), & supposedly a new timing chain for only $5.
I'm still waiting to hear where this $5 chain set up comes from.
