Go to the tranny section.
Seek out Pro Built
And Dana.
They know the real score.
But, Trans Go is the prefered set up.

BUT
IF your current tranny is wimpy, adding those kits will kill the tranny real quick!
WISET answer I can offer, is to have it strengthened and include those kits in the rebuild of your current tranny.
Read many of answers about the trannys over there.
VERY VALUABLE EDUCATION IS OFFERED with those responses.
BUT, cost is about the same for the 5-speed conversion and beefing up the 700R4.
Time-beefing up 700R4 wins hands down. Much quicker job and no questions, like "did I do this pedal linkage right"?

Actually, if you're going with B&M, don't buy the TransPak- get the Shift Improver Kit instead. The Transpak is exactly the same as the Shift Improver kit for our trannies! You know why the Transpak costs so much? It includes a trans filter. That's it!! It might do more for other tarnsmissions, but for the 700r4, you'd save money by buying the Shift Kit, and buying a trans filter locally.
All 84-92 V6 f-bodies have the 700r4. The 700r4 was an option in 1983 for the V8 guys, but the V6's didn't see it till '84. 82-83 2.8 f-bodies have the 3-speed "metric" TH-200C transmission... which was designed poorly.
In my trans, I installed the B&M Shift Improver kit, stage 2, and now that I've heard about all the horrors, I wish I went with TransGo's kit. I might do that in the future. The TransGo kit has more thought behind it, while the B&M kit changes only a few things. Of course, that's why the TransGo kit costs more!

i had my tranny rebuilt about 3 months ago, and i had a vette servo added, and the guys put a shift kit in for free, not really a name brand one though, and she shifts really nice, and very firm. the dudes that built it said, there's not to much you can do for a 700 cause they shift really well anyway.

Then why do mine ways stop shifting!!!!
Actually I'm driving my new tranny home in afew more minutes. Felt good to drive it today.
The tranny guy messed up that vacuum hose at the bass of the distributor. Gotta fix that to have high vacuum readings.

Go to the tranny section and look for answers like that question. They are really educated about the effects of shift kits and that question has been asked there often.
On my tranny, it is not a super solid first second shift. Firmer, is the word I can use.
I'm still trying to determine if the speedo gears were changed to another set. Seems to read to slow or else I have forgotten how smooth and powerful that 3.4 engine really is. I was doing 80 so quick and easy, last night! The guy said he do some tricks to it.
I got a 6 month warranty. Time to hit the Drag Strip!!
