Well, we can fix that problem, tell me where you live, and you'll have 2 thirdgen's.

Then I'll be the proud owner of a 68.

IS IT A TRUE PONTIAC 350 ENGINE?
You probably have the two barrel carb. Low performance engine.
The 350 4 bll was the 350 HO engine. Next was the 400 series. I had a 1968-400 HO /TH400 tranny (Never lost a race in Van Nuys!). Was a wonderful car.
THESE ARE NOT BAD THINGS, NO PUT DOWNS, just trying to find out what ya really got.
Carb?
You'll end up rebuilding it and also rebushing the throttle plate.
OR the other option is to just get a 4 bbl intake and throw on a 4 bbl, new.
ALL PONTIAC ENGINES ARE THE SAME SIZE for intakes & such. HELL ALL PONTIAC ENGINES ARE THE SAME!
The larger the "size" is just a bore & stroke, crank job.
MEANING, you can slip a 455 PONTIAC under the hood and no one will know.
Manual drum brakes, console, two speed tranny, radio, heater day night mirror are your options, right?
Door panels, plain? Or the luxury door panels with door close pull handles?
You should have a 120 MPH speedo & a fuel gauge, with idiot lights.
Firebirds only had a special gauge package, consisting of four gauges (fuel, oil, water, electrical) on the right side and the tach was on the hood.
Do you have the rubber emblem on the front bumper?

Ok it was my uncles i havent really been in it in a while its been coverd for 3 years but heres what i know it has
The engine has been rebuilt it has the stock 4 barel carb. it has a heater side kick vents it has the pull handles on the door the frotn end is gone on the car so i dono about that. i think it has the 120 speedo but i keep wanting to say its 160 for some odd reason cuz i think thats what it said ill take a look tommorw or later on this week. its still in my uncles grague. it has drum brakes i dono if disk will be my top priority but it is up there right now there is NO peddel pressure. im pretty sure it is a true 350 engine every thing is stock on it.
it has powerbrakes tranny i think might be a 3speed auto. it ddidnt come stock with a radio.
Whats a day night mirror?
I think it has the guage package not sure. but did they come with a 160 speedo?
KED HELP ME figure this thing out

Here's what ya got.
Do you see stripes on the side, anywhere?
Front end gone is a big bummer. That'll cost ya as much as the whole car.
Not joking!
Find the TRIM TAG at teh firewall, driver side.
Read teh codes.
I'll help ya with some.
You'l see some info like so.
LOS =Los Angeles plant car (Van Nuys)
NOR=Norwood car (Ohio)
example 03C=
March 1968, third week built
The trimtag will NOT reveal what engien ya have.
BUT, if you have a real original CAST IRON 4 BBL intake & A ROCHESTER CARB, you may have a genuine 350 HO car.
Those are unique & unusal, as the COST for that package was ALMOST or MORE than the performance 400 mills.
Three speed tranny, check it out. Should have a "T" handle shifter, black plastic, chrome shaft.
160MPH speedo? COULD BE.
My 1969 Firebird I stripped had a 160MPH speedo.
If ya want parts let me know, I know of some sources.
YOU WILL BE DOING A COMPLETE BRAKE JOB and it will not be totally cheap, but, worthit in thelong run. I can give ya info about swapping discs, etc. I cna give ya just about any info you need.
IT'S A LONG TRAIL.
What I mean is I would not want to start restoring my 1967 RS/SS 350 4-sped convertible these days. I have 99.9% of the parts. I've had them since I got the car back in 1984. I have many spare parts to use on my Wife's/Son's 1968 Camaro, also. Her car is pretty intact, also.
Buying "Parts Cars to bring back to life" are not for the faint of heart nor weak of wallet!
I can get ya a radiator (3 core which is perfect). Rest is from other sources.
I'll send ya a few links for the disc brake jobs, too.
BUT you should concentrate on what ya need to do. Like strip off the front subframe, put in new poly bisquits and reattach. Then start going forward, to engine or body front fenders and such.
You have a very long project ahead.
BUT, since the Firebird may never be back, you have a great subject!

If you do have the 350 HO, you have the heads from a 400, which are bigger valved than a 350 2bb head. Since the bore is smaller on a 350, the bores will be notched for the valves. high performance pontiac did a whole series on instlling a 200-4R trans in a 68(think right year) goat, if you want to do 4.10 +, and cruise the highway, do it with overdrive. Also, you will have pre-smog heads, no hardened exhaust seats. I would highly suggest they be added,if not yet, and start getting some lead substitute until then.

I'd sell ya mine from my 77 T/A, but shipping would be a b*tch. Might be able to find some cheap, but if you want to stay #'s matching, get the seats.
Rochesters are fun to work with. Electronic Rochesters are not. Get the HP book "Rochester Carburetors" by Doug Roe.
VERY INFORMATIVE

Keep the Box in the camaro, either get the pertonix kit or the msd box for points. Better to go with pertronix & get rid of points. Had them in a 63 studebaker, they sucked. I got the unilite conversion, ran so much better.

I believethe pertronix setup is about $100, relatively cheap. As for how much the bird is worth, show her some old car trader mags, 1st gen birds in even bad condition go around 4500, so if you can fix up the car, & it is an actual 350HO (which will add to the value). The car is a classic. Get your mom involved in the fix up, let her enjoy it, but not too much .In fact, get the whole family involved. Then it will be harder for the parental units to tell you to get rid of it.

Jegs has pertonix ignitor kit p/n 751-1181LSCC for $71.99, Ignitor II kits for $109.99, summit looks to have the same prices.
The cheapest way to go will be to resstore the car , but not to exact ( unless you can afford to). For parts, try year1, or ames. There also might be a fiberglass front end out there. Just fix it up to your tastes, get running & enjoy.
i re-read your posts, since the engine was rebuilt, there probobly are hardened exhaust seats in there already.
