92 camaro rs v6 qustions
hey guys im new here i jjust bought a 92 rs v6 auto with 95 thousand orginal mines from a old lady... now i have a few qustions about it whats normal operatiing temp cause mine seems to be at 220 all the time
also with the v6 what is the top speed of it about i have had it to around 110
i was also looking at getting a z28 but was wondering how hard it would be to put a v8 in this car and would i have to get a hole new tranny? to fit the v8
and what could i do to this v6 just to get alittle more power?
thanks guys

Re: 92 camaro rs v6 qustions
200-220 seems about right. My 91 does the same in town and goes lower on the highway. I have had mine about 110-115, but it dies off after that. Not that it hits a governor, but because the car just doesn't have the power. If you swap engines, there are tons of articles and valuable info here. If you swap to a V8, your going to need a new transmission. The holes in the bell housing are 18 degrees off between a 90 and a 60 degree engine. V6 and more power you say? Read through this area. If your into being a pioneer and having something a little different, this is the place to be.

200-220 is normal operating temp, with a max safe temp of 260 if memory serves. As for top speed 110-120, if its governed it will stop around 110 or so, if not that power probably would, but if that doesnt the gearing will by 120 due to the 700r4 only using 4th gear as an OD gear(Idk that this is true of the v8 700r4s, but it is true for all the v6 ones) it can be modified to shift into it at WOT, but it is also prudent to beef up 4th gear if you do that, or you are asking for trouble.
As for your quest for more power, please read the stickys up top, as it has been answered already in great detail. If the v8 swap details aren't there just do a search and you will find the info you need.

A '90-'92 3.1l auto with the proper AZTY calibration is speed limited to 115 MPH off, back on at 112 MPH.
And what ex-x-fire said about the leaves/debris between the radiator and A/C condenser.

leave it alone and enjoy it untill u can afford to mod stuff, the car is already more then fast enough to get u in a decent bit of trouble

car runs low 12's now at 9 pounds of boost and would go well into the 11's if i ever put a few turns on the boost controller.
the v6 cars are nothing to laugh at if done properly but it does take a good bit of money to make them pretty fast
the cheapest turbo build i can think of ran the guy around 400 bucks but he did everything entirely himself including the tunning

Re: 92 camaro rs v6 qustions
keep it really simple
#1 full tuneup
#2 cat back ex system
#3 headers
#4 port the intake
#5 cold air intake
#6 get rid of extra wieght int he car
anything more then that and u will really be getting into the motor and thats were it starts getting exspensive
