like someone pulled the plug?
Hi guys!I've got a problem.Yesterday, while driving 55 my RS just quit.Like someone pulled the plug.I thought it could be my ignition mudule.I could crank the hell out of the engine but it wouldn't hit a lick.My dad and future father-in-law loaded it on the car hauler my in law has and brought it home.I was an hour late for work because of this.
Anyway, after it set for an hour or so(when they actually went to get it),dad tried to start it and it started but died immediatly after. So that tells me I'm getting spark.
Is it possible for the fuel pump to still run but drop the pressure all at once causing the car to die that quick?I can hear the fuel pump kicking on.And I don't have a fuel pressure guage to check the pressure with.
I see me buying a guage in the near future.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I was messing with the RS trying to figure out what the hell is going on.I definatly have spark.I can still here the fuel pump working. It still won't start.
Here is the delima, when you fuel pump kicks on it pressurizes the fuel system. So if I turn the key a few times so the pump kicks on,the system is pressurized. After did this several times I pushed the valve in on the shrader valve and it barily dribbled over the top.Shouldn't fuel be squirting all over the place?Even without the car running?
I think I found my problem. Now comes the fun of replaceing it!

Yeah, dude, you're right; fuel should shoot out of there. Get the gauge just to make sure, though!
Edelbrock (and I think one other company) makes a high flow fuel pump for our cars. I was thinking about it when my last pump died- but decided against it. I also thought of putting a v8 TPI pump in there- and changed my mind too. The "stock" fuel system seems to be strong enough for -my- V6; plus, I'd rather add injectors later than find out the pump I installed flows too much.
If you search the archives, you might find my message on skipping the pulsator... good luck; it's a btch of a job.

Yup, Tom is right. When i pressed on the schrader valve, fuel shot out. Test it anyways. I got a gauge at Sears for $40....Pep Boys had the EXACT SAME one for $70.

if you have a 2.8 L v6 it might be your mass air flow censor, try giving it a hit

I wish it was the mass air flow. That would make #4.Advance would be getting another piece of junk returned to them.
I picked up a fuel filter last night that I'm getting ready to change.I have a feeling it won't help. But hey,it needs changed anyway. Thanks for the reply's guys.I'm not looking at all towards changing the pump.Hell,I've even considered cutting a hole in the floor for access to the pump.
Thanks guys.
