Porting heads

How much would it cost to do a port job on my heads? And what about HP gains?

You V6 or LT1
Price at the local shop is about $150 per head for a full port polish and valve job.

Not a bad deal
You looking at about 10-20hp.

So which car do you want to race me in Monkie?
You bettre hope I never get slicks and an adjustable wasteegate. So that I can launch with 5PSI of boost and hookit, plus max out at 19psi. Um can you say High 12's for $500
Its all good though... you can still pick on the Mustang GTs

Hey now, hey now! My LT1 should be in the high 12 rang now. I raced this guy who used to go to my school in his 2000 SS. His family owns half of Greenville. And we raced and I beat him decently. Didnt tear past him by any means. But a kill none the less. So I think your TTA might have a little trouble hangine with me now .

And yea I was talking about porting and polishing my V6 heads.

What have you done to the LT1 to make it that fast?

Well the main mods are LT4 hotcam, (finally got the bitch) Borla exhaust, CAI, and a few little things. It wasn't hard at all to get into the numbers. Cost me some money? Yes it did, almost every paycheck I got. Was it worth it? Hell fu(kin yea! Only down side is all the people at the gas stations in Greenville know me by name.

Monkie I am sure its a lot faster now, but the LT4 camaro wasn't a high 12sec car.
You dont even have what it had done to it. So I doubt your faster than it.
All you have is Cam, exhaust, and Cold air. Thats not much when you are starting with a 14.3 sec car. You really need to get a 1000Cfm TB and 1.6 ratio fully roller rockers and a set of LT4 heads then you will be knocking on the 12's cause thats what seperatees the LT4 from the LT1
Oh yea 4:10s work great with the 6 speeds.

Kyle, I said I have other things done to it. As in 4:10 ratio and a 58mm TB (haven't put it on yet but I hope it will help out some). And yes you are right it helps out a hell of alot. I dare anyone to try to get me off the line.

check out the book how to build horsepower. He gives lots of details for you to port your own heads. I actually ported a spare set a month or two back, but I havent taken them in to the machine shop yet. As long as you follow the books instructions you can pick up 10 hp or so, just dont try to reshape the design of the heads, just smooth them. The guy at the machine shop was going to plane the heads .020,put some stiffer springs in that he gets bulk, valve job, seals, all for about 160 for both heads.
