What would it take to swap a carb. 305 for my stock 2.8 V6

I need to know if it would take a lot of money to swap my 2.8 out for a 305 in my 84' Camaro. I've heard that my camaro has an on-board computer that might give me some trouble. Is their anything i need to know before doing this.

WEll if you want to go carb it wont take a lot of work. Basically strip everything out of the engine bay and drop in a 305 and new tranny. Youir V6 tranny will not fit a V8 without some modification.Swap radiators, fuel system and other little things such as springs in the front. THen reconnect everything and with a little fine tunning you go it.
If you are wanting to swap a fuel injected one in you have to swap computers and wiring harnesses then do everything above.

If ya had the 1985 (MPFI) & above, you'd be in for abit more work. Kyle is correct.
Yours is a slam dunk mission, open wide, say AHH, close hood.
Why settle for only a 305?
GO GET A 350 or bored & stroked small block package for the effort ya putting out.
Ton's of options.

Yank engine. while out put V8 front springs in. Put in an adjustable fuel pressure regulator so you do not have to mess with the fuel pump. HIGH Pressure pump, LOW pressure carb. Hmm yes new tranny needed, all comp stuff yank it if your not going back. Radiator is iffy, the one in my 91 305 is the same one in my V6 just with an extra fan and auto trans lines. Hmm make sure that you get all the accesories off the V6 and ut them on the V8 so you do not have to run any adapters(If your not postitive there the same) Other then that I can't think of anything else.

there is no regulator on this planet that takes 50 psi down to 8 psi.

Kyle, to the contrary, there are several.

My Jegs catalog, about a year old:
Page 70, middle colum mallory 3 port return style #650-4309 "total adjustment range 3-50 psi".

Several others that list adjustment ranges of 35-65 psi. One could easily use two regulators in a step down fashion in an emergency.

.

Hmmmm I must stand corrected, though I have never seen or heard of this being used. I have always seen like 20psi spreads at the largest for Carb motors. Though I do know that one guy used his electric pump to feed the mechanical one on the block. It worked out ok for a short time. I dont know how it ended up in the end because his daughter and I quit seeing each other soon after he finished his car and we started working on mine. So once my 355 was in I never saw them again.

Since you will be needing a new tranny all your ocmputer problems are gone. I would look into a 350 unless you had a 305 already. I would look into gettting a 334 stroker kit for my 305. It is not that hard as long as you have a lot of time to do this and it is not your primary car....
