CAN I JUST RIP ALL THAT STUFF OUT?!!?

Ok, before I bought my car for $600.00 it ran fine. But then I found out that someone put a non computer controlled carb on it. So now it's hardly even starting. So, instead of finding a fbody 2.8 carb, I'm just going to a junk yard and buying a non computer controlled distributor. a new carb at autozone is 400.00. Now way! My question is: Can I rip out all that emissions and computer stuff out? It's so much confusion under my hood and now that I'm not with a computer system, what's the point?

Is that another FROST BEIGE firebird I see, that makes what, 3, myself, KED85,& you. It will be a lot easier to replace the card with a salvage yard peice than a distributer.

Keep origonal, especially an SE model, not many of those made.

Youo have a federal version of the 2.8 for passenger cars.
Go to the wrecking yard to get yourself a carb.
Get it rebuilt. you will have MAJOR DIFFICULTY get in the throttle plate to be good.
The throtytle plate muct be rebuilt. Rest is a simple carb rebuild kit.
I recently rebuilt the carb on my 1985 S-10 Blazer (non-computer carb, proper, tho, federal emission setup).
It starts real easy, even missing/reusing the original choke pots with blown seals.
Don't monkey around with the stuff, get it back to stock, then modify for whatever ya can do.
To get the correct rebuild kit, you need the GM part number stamped on the carb.
IN THE END, it may be WISER to bit the bullet & get the OTC rebuilt one, with warranty.
BARGIN THEM DOWN!
PS, SURE YA CAN RIP ALL THAT JUNK OUT!
I did on my S-10 Blazer, to get it running. I KEPT IT to replace for CA emission passing, tho.
I'd plan on doing a V-8 swap, ya got the perfect candidate! No FI stuff to work with. Just a car & engine bay (plus the correct V-8 tranny!).
Start scouting the yards for a V-8 engine/tranny candidiate!

Ok, I already have a carb from an s10. So if I was to get the intake and 4 barrel carb, what kind of carb would I need? Vacuum advance etc?

Hey man, you're obvisiously jealous of me because on EVERYONE OF MY POSTS you've written something negative about my car. You're new here. Either Grow up or get out. It's people like you who make this website queer. And besides, you're a NOTHING and your opinion means nothing to me. Get a life bud.

MODERATORS: Erase everyone of this guys posts. THanks. It's nothing but insults.

Glad I could offer.
Sorry for the news I had to pass, tho.
Perhaps I offered enough specifics for ya to get closer to the correct option to solve your problem.
IF YOU GET AN OLD CARB FOR REBUILDING,
YOU WILL rebuild the throttle shaft bushings.
Need only do the primarys, as that takes the most wear.
I rebuilt/had mine rebuilt.
WOW!
I couldn't believe how much DIRT was inside that carb of mine.
It's a 211,500 mile carb on my 1985 S-210 Blazer & it's the correct one. It was rebuilt about 100K ago.
The POTS (2) for the choke go for about $40 a pop. Atleast that was what my pots were to cost. I reused old ones. I don't drive it that much to worry about "Choke" operation.
You also need torque screwdriver set to rebuild this carb.
Be aware, good thoughts to ya
