It's a flat feeler gage, as opposed to a wire feeler gage. Most everyone has one sitting in their tool boxes. Do a search at your favorite search engine for it, you'll come across a picture sooner or later.

hey wayne, since i am becoming a mechanic, i just got a whole lot of these with my Snap-On tool set..........they are tools used for measuring........per say to check things such as clearance and eveness........to check the clearance of something, you would simply slide the feeler gauge in between the two objects that you want to know the clearnace between, and keep sticking the gauges in until you can not fit anymore......the last one you will have stuck in will be the clearance......

or to check the trueness of a bellhousing......lay a flatedge across the opening and stick the feeler gauges inbeetweeen the flat edege and bellhousing surface............

capice?

the gauges are also used to check the warpage of the head/block surface. Get a machined straitedge (block of metal machined true/strait on all surfaces) put on the bottom of the heads/on top of the block where the heads would go. do 3 measurements 2-diagnal corner to corner & 1 straight across lengthwise. The usual acceptable clearance should be in the chilton book (haynes doesn't list it)
