doing a 2.8 to 3.4 swap question
hey all got a quick question,
I'm in the middle of my swap and the 3.4 came from an manual car and mines an auto, I was looking for a new starter, flex plate and torque converter part number for both engines to see if the 2.8 would fit on the 3.4. Any help would be greatly appreated

Re: doing a 2.8 to 3.4 swap question
I was in the same boat when I did mine. (banging my head against the wall still over not buying the manual trans too and just replacing my automatic). I think my 2.8 flexplate was weighted, and had to be re-balanced to the 3.4. I'll have to try and remember for sure. I therefore want to say they were different. It was about 4 years ago, so I'll have to think about it.

1987 and later 2.8l flexplate will work on the 3.4.
You need a "nuetrally balanced" flexplate, meaning there is no welded on counter weight.
This exact topic has been covered many times, doing a search will help find the information.

Six_Shooter I did do the search several times after going through three pages and not finding anything about starters, and torque converters. I thought I would ask here.

Your starter and torque converter should be fine.

I thought it was to
but I can't remember on the rockers, do you tourque them all the way down or is it get them tight and then 1/4 turn. I remember something being said about them on here and i can't remember or find it again.

It depends on which rocker pedestal you're using.

Ugh...
He's got a 3.4 he's not swapping heads on. Standard no lash plus between 1/2 and 3/4 turn applies here for the valves.
Starter and torque converter DO NOT get replaced. They are the same unless damaged or the trans is or has been rebuilt (torque converter only). You will probably have to buy a shim pack for the starter to get the necessary 1/8" clearance between the starter shaft and the flexplate ring gear teeth, or risk damaging the flexplate or the starter.

Re: doing a 2.8 to 3.4 swap question
hey all, I got my swap done and everything was going great but I had a water line bust when i was test driving it checking things out, I got her towed home now i have water vapor coming out at idle and blue smoke when accelerating. now I still have my 2.8 engine, and I'm thinking I have a cracked head on the 3.4.
how close are the 2.8 heads to the 3.4 heads and if I put the 2.8 heads on the 3.4 would I lose anything? basicly what is the pro and cons of using the 2.8 heads on a 3.4?
