2.8 chip

hello all I have an 87 Camaro with the 2.8 mpfi. It stops revving at 5k. I want to eliminate the rev limiter so that I can use the full potential of what I built my motor for.

Is there anysort of chip or programmer that I can use to increase my rev limit and possibly add a little more power... Im not so good with the computer side of cars so any information is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

You would need to buy a chip burner which is 85 bucks. If your really want just the rev limiter taken off. I have a burner, I could just burn your chip for you so you dont have to pay out for a burner for a one time deal.

and also a chip adapter package. You need this adapter and at least one chip. If you buy them seperate you may save a few bucks.

Re: 2.8 chip

so how exactly does the chip burner work and what does the adapter do... if i buy a burner how many times does it usually take to get it right. i want to program it to have more power on top of no rev limit. is this what they call eprom programming

Re: 2.8 chip

at 5 k it slows climbing in rpm to almost nothing. and it slows down in climbing after about 4.2k seems like its slowing itself down. my trucks motor doesnt do that

Re: 2.8 chip

You've run into the engine's built-in "wall of power". No computer tune is going to help the restrictive intake and heads. Even if you did port them to the max, I'd be willing to bet my stock small-port 3100 heads (untouched other than new valve seals and decarbonized) still flow better (and give me a redline with decent power at about 6K).

Re: 2.8 chip

something else is wrong then its not a revlimiter check ur ignition timing almost sounds like its either not advancing or its extreamly retarded, both of which will caus ethe engine to not rev up or rev up very slowly

Re: 2.8 chip

a stock 2.8 will rev past 5k pretty easy, are u sure that u installed the timming chain correctly if the cam is off a few degrees it will also cause these symptoms

check the ignition timing first as that is the easiest thing to check, also make sure the cat is not clogged up

I cleaned up the thread, keep it on topic (technical help) or people will be taking vacations from TGO.

Where did you spend that cash? I ask because some of your parts might not be playing well together....
