Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
i had good luck with the greddy electric boost control where you can make adjust to control boost spikes an turbo spool . i just didn't like the manul cause i didn't like pulling over to adjust it .lol . i havent dug into the ebl flash far enough to see if i can control boost with that or not .
turbo xs does make that nice 2 stage manual controller , u adjust both stages to what u want , then its wored up to a toggle switch to change between the 2 settings .
nitrous jets make cheap nice boost controllers , i just install them into the signal line to the wastegates, want more boost just up the jet size

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
Well like I said the control is better now. 14psi in first, and command for the rest of the pull. And the dead band is set to .52 psi which I could change I guess to keep it even more smooth.

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
Help have major issue!
Heres the problem. I was just normaly driving the car and all of a suddon it was running super rich to where it wanted to stall, I limped home and noticed that the Nubmer 2 cylender was soaked with gas. Also A few others were a tad wet. The AFR was about 11 flat if I gave it some gas.
Here the other syptoms. When turning the ignition the fuel pressure goes to 43psi when primed then I hear a slight click and to 0 or so Psi It goes. I even dissconnected the injector harness and the same thing, fuel was being pushed in to the engine. When running/cranking I can get some PSI but not nearly enough. FPR? Bad? How can I tell. Obvously it will barly start so I dont plan to keep cranking on it till I know what is wrong.
Ill be pissssed off if the injectors are leaking. I will take off plentum and see if the injects prime correct and leak or not but if the FPR is bad how can I tell???
Thanks for any help in the situation as right now im very mad.

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
I took the rail off and every last one of the injectors leaks(EDIT JUST ONE I was mad when typing and forgot about the primeing process), Ive had the damn things for a week and probly only drove 50 miles on them. I will video tape it if it helps. You can literly hear the injectors squirting by into the cylinders just by priming the pump with the whole top end still together. This is Effing depressing right now. Very. I will take a video and let you look for yourselfs. Even when the rail just has some gass sitting in it, basically 0PSI the injectors will leak it out. WTF.
I hope i didnt wash the cylinders down from limping it home 1 mile, I dont even wana think of how much fuel was in those cylinders.
If i put the old injectors I have back in and its fine, we know the problem and im out 150 buck... oh joy.

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
fasteddie, we have been following your thread. Just to let you know, we leak test all of our injectors up to 80psi or more depending on which injector it is. When they leave our shop we are 100% confident that they are in perfect working condition, however whether it be a reman, modified, or new injector anything can happen. I totally understand your frustration. At the risk of giving you another thing to do, we will be more than happy to put them on the bench for you,,, no charge of course. If there is nothing wrong with them, then at least it is something that you can rule out.
Just a thought.....

Heres the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lY2Pk...ature=youtu.be Its just ONE that is leaking badly. The others are just doing what they should when primed. I checked every last one. I know its crazy. Yes they worked perfect up to this point then just crusing down the road, it was just flooded all of the suddon. I barly limped home. All I need is one injector, the others are fine and ohm fine. Stuff happends I understand. I hope the video helps. I would have video taped it on the rail but gas was just a running all over the place. Let me know what to do as I really need her running by friday for the track.

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
This is why I like to have a couple spare injectors when getting in the larger, harder to find injectors.
Have you changed the oil yet? Don't let the gas soaked oil sit in the block too long, get as much of it out as soon as you can, then even let the crankcase sit open for a while, by removing the oil fill cap, PCV valve, etc. Sometimes, when a cylinder gets washed down extremely badly the gas can get everywhere and the fumes can cause an issue on first re-start.

OK will take oil out now, thanks six. Should I do anything else? I know that cylinder was flooded bad.
I still have the 28lbs but if southbay can help me out before friday morning, ill be ok. Id rather not put the 28lbs in unless I need to.

Also replacing the plugs is a recommended step. When a cylinder gets that fouled, the plug itself is usually badly fouled and will have trouble firing.

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
OK well I took the oil out, smelled of gas a bit. The plugs will be replaced. I know its washed down bad as I could literly see I have a ex leak on that manifold, gas was dripping out. When it started being rich i poped the hood and looked, gass dripping out of the #2 cylinder manifold and wow was it reaking of gass. I litterly shut it off and tried coasted home to not mess the cylinder up. I will shoot a little oil in there. I still cant believe my luck. I pray it didnt wound the cylinder. I could also hear the KR in the other cylinders, as they were probly dead lean for that few seconds, Ive never hear KR in person before but that was a distinct sound.

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
If I inject a little oil into the cylinders and crank them over by hand... can I then do a compression test to see if there screwed up or not. Whats the proper way to get the oil it seat back down? Im very conserned at this point. I could turn the FP off and get some oil in her and see if those rings are damaged.

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
Yeah, that will work, and a good idea.
Squirting some oil into a cylinder during a compression test is a way to tell if an engine has a bad ring or not.

Ok well I will be doing that, I already put the other injectors back in just for the heck of it. Will put some oil in here, crank it over by had a few times, check that cylinder and then if it is ok, start car. Thankfully had oil plugs and the other injectors laying arround.
My next post will be good I hope and not disasterous

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
I have to be the luckiest son of a B I know.
I put in new oil and filter, modded the bin file to run the 28lbs just for idling and such. I then shot a little oil in the cylinder, hand cranked it over a bit. Then I started the car up, let idle and reved lightly once warm. Wonce the car was up to temp I then checked to see if I was screwed or not. Took out the # 2 plug and tested it. 145PSI!!! Thank god as thats what it was when I tested them back in the winter. 145PSI on that specific cylinder on my records.
So all in all im lucky and it could have been worse. Engine runs smooth although the plugs are trashed, didnt see a point in using the new on a bin file I know would be wrong. Idled at 13.0:1 afr. I just guessed the Inject Cons.
But if the day couldnt get worse, That wasnt spark knock I heard earlier, it was my alt pulley. That thing is trashed as I always could hear it squeeking here and there. So now I need one of them and the injector to get back on my feet. Im not racing it with the 28lbs as theres just not point as the tune was dialed in perfect. I recorded 0-100mph earlier in 12.09 seconds this was yesterday when she was running right and I also made full commanded boost by 30mph. I wanted to see a track time of this badly. Low 13's if the car is ok. Well see when I get it fixed if its still ok.
I have to do comp checks on the rest of the cylinders yet but I was very worried about the flooded one. Its not every day you see gas trickling out the #2 exhaust manifold runner.
Please let me know asap Southbay what we can do. I just need another 48lbs injector if possible to my house by thursday. Either way let me know.
EDIT rechecked all cylinders. From 146-155Psi in all 6. That is a good sign that im ok there. Before the turbo they were from 145-155psi, so its spot on with what the engine produced before the Turbo addition. Just hope the bearnings are ok as well no real way to see unless you tear it down which I can't do.

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
motor will be fine, back on my 3.1 i had a ground issue on my injectors and when i would crank the engine to start it the injectors would stay open, i actually hydrolocked the motor trying to start it.
had to pull all 6 plugs unhook the fuel pump and crank the motor over to get the fuel out.
changed the plugs, oil and fix the ground issue and the motor was fine.
so im sure with one leaky injector ur motor is just fine, the only way it be concerend is if it filled the cyl with so much fuel it stoped the motor dead. on a running motor this usually results in a cracked pistion and or a bent rod and tore up bearings
btw with all the great feedback southbay as on here just search there name im sure they will take care of u without hassle

Well it kept running, badly but I just eased it home and fixed it up. Compressions fine so I feel better that this has happend to others before and they were ok.
Dave I made 16psi by 30Mph earlier today. Finally the boost was just right and steady the rest of the way, of the pull..then I run into these problems...lol

Awsome, thanks southbay. Ill be on the track this weekend if all goes as planed.
On another note, please pray that one of my friends does indeed sell me his rear end. Its got 3.73's and a LSD. Hes selling his 80's camaro (race car) and needs cash ASAP so we may swap the rear ends and ill give him some cash on top. This would be a great thing. Although its a 26 spline axle rear? Is that going to break that much easier since mine is a 28 spine?

I don't think you'll have a problem with a 26 spline rear end, many people have used 26 spline rear ends with great success.

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
the 26 spline rear end is only fractionally weaker then the 28 spline unit
the 28 spline unit has an 1/8 inch larger ring gear
the 26 spline unit will work just fine.
the only nice thing about the 28 spline unit is u can swap in a 4thgen lsd
if his rear has disc brakes u will also need the prop valve off his car, hopefully it is drum brakes though as drums have alot more holding power on the starting line

He said he would think it over..lol... that beter not involve too much thinking. And to boot I just paid 80 bucks for a new alt. as it took a horrible crap yesterday, bearings are so shot, literly got so hot that it cracked the case on the top of it. Never seen that before. I guess that itermitten sweaking every now and again should have been delt with a while back.

i learned my lesson with alt's a long time ago, back in the day i had a brand new saturn sc2 3 door, alt started making a whining noise but i always ignored it was just liek ahh it will be fine.
was a long way from home and the alt siezed up solid, the tensioner on that motor was so good that once the alt seized up the motor wouldnt turn over.

Wow. Thats no good. Well I did the same thing (sorta) on my DD. 2 weeks ago the tentioner seized up, burning up the belt and hopping off, also trashing the power steering fluid container. I was on my way to work at 5am and was stuck on the turnpike. I was like ehh earlier in the week when it started squeeking. This time I will learn from it!! As I didnt last time.

unbolt tq arm and ds
unbolt brake lines and shocks
lower rear drop springs out once rear is lowered then unbolt lca's and its out
reverse to put it back in
with both cars side by side it shouldnt take long

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
Thank you Thank you SOUTHBAY!!!
Got the injector in, runs great. Dave you have gotta see this data log when I link it up in a few min. 0-100mph in like 11.375 or so seconds. I cant even floor it period! It will leave a burn out for a long while.. seriously Im not kidding, im talking straight burn out to like 60mph+...crazy boost now.
This is because why??? Remember I said that when the injector got stuck open I saw the gas coming out the Ex manifold? Well the gasket was shot. I replaced it and now the boost is like a hammer when it kicks in. Im excited for Friday now. AFR's are a little leaner then Id like 12.0 basically. But still you must look at it. Let me know what ya think.
I will add it in 5 min, will edit/add it to this post.
EDIT log is attatched. I havent looked it over too much, but a 12 sec may be possible now? If nothing breaks. The boost may be a little over the place though on the log.

Thanks dave, yes I will add another 5% fuel to those cells to keep it safe in case of a fault.
Those times are amazing to me, Ive never seen sub 12 second 0-100's in the car before. And the start was horrible.. Slicks and some boost will propel me into the 12s I hope. Fingers crossed.

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
nice to see a sponsor who really stands behind there product, alot of places that see something is being used for racing will automatically void the warrenty
i still gota get with u guys for a new set of injectors for my twin turbo iroc i just cant decide if i want to upgrade to 160# injectors to run e85 or stick a set of 120# injectors in it and stick with reg pumpgas

No such things as to much power, just to little traction.

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
Check out the log. Does it look "safe" enough for the track tommorow. I added some fuel in and got all 11's this time. It may be a little slower but its safe if the alky goes unexpectatly. No KR, nice Intake temps, afrs good right?? I think I should just run that tune and hope for the best.
Also here is a video or 2. There more for fun then anything. Had to get the car ready tonight so I got gas and such so why not datalog? Off to the track Asap after work tommorow. Im hoping to be in the 13s strong.
The 2nd video, has that long burn out I was talking about in it. I wont do that again. I dont wana spin, I wana hook.
Has pictures of the burnout on it....lol I literly dont push the peddle to the floor till im going about 10mph ... on this video.
Enjoy.

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
i see three lean spots wheen boost goes over 15psi were the afrs are going into the 12.2 range.
it smooth out those 3 spots and call it good and let her rip
i still think u should turn it to 18psi and go for it

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
The reason im so worried all of the sudden is because of how fast its spooling now, it jerks me badly if I even hook up, so the trans and such worrie me of how much abuse it can take, exspecially when the slicks are on and I try to get off a boosted launch.

Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
I get to see and talk to him at the track on friday about the rear end. Im hoping that goes well.
Re: Fasteddi turbo thread v2
Fasteddi, we received the injector today. We put it up on the bench and it was definitely leaking, however, we did a reverse backflush on it and it turned out that a piece of debris was infact occluding the opening.
We then did a leak test at 80psi..it did not leak one drop and the spray pattern looked great!
If you want to keep it as a spare, let us know, we will be more than happy to send it to you. Good luck with your race!
