1991 3.1 Stalling.

So in the last Two weeks my car has bin stalling.
When in Park. The car will either idle at 1800 RPM after I Rev it a bit, it will stick at 1800 RPM for as long as the car runs. When I hit the brake while still in park. The cars idle drops to about 900, or 400 then quickly stalls. ONCE IN A WHILE- the car will seem to run fine.. 75% of the time my car acts up and does all these problems.

While Reversing the car stalls VERY easily, a slight touch of the brake and the car instantly stalls. which means I have to rip quickly when in parking lots which is somewhat hard.

While in drive the car will tend to keep up better but will sometimes stall when stopping. If I Very slightly brake to stop, barely braking at all it will not stall.

I have a feeling it is the throttle body. Today me and my father lubricated the moving areas on the throttle body and the car seems to run better. Not sure if this is 25% luck or if the throttle body is the case.

I do infact work at a Autobody shop. I am just not a motor working type of person.

that looks right , i know theres a post on here somewere on how to redo it.

more then likley thats all u will need to do, anytime the battery dies or u disconect it in a 3.1 car u will have stalling issues rough idle until the idle relearn is done

u dotn have to do that procedure the ecm will do it on its own while ur driving the car around but it takes a long time. doing it the way in thos eposts gets it over and done with fast

be sure to unplug the battery for 5 minutes before doing it

Re: 1991 3.1 Stalling.

Resolved but unresolved.

So. I found out a panel under my dash was not perfectly fit in, couldnt manage to make it fit either\. causing the panel to push the throttle more than needed, when I hit the brake, It caused the panel to slide up releasing the panel, the car was learning to idle with the panel down. So it caused it to stall when the panel was up. So I used a heat gun, then notched a small spot so the throttle did not interfere with the panel. I made the car relearn again. But I started it. Car kept stalling unless slight gas was applied. when I went home from work I had to ride the gas slightly as I braked. But on the highway car drove perfectly normal. When I got home the all idle problems went away. later that night I started it again, couldnt idle on itself

Seems that when the car runs and drives for about 4 minutes. It will idle proper. but just after starting it and letting go of the gas. It will die. The car works for me but it bothers me that I will have to manually warm the car up every time I go to drive it.
