3.1 balancer?

I through away my crankshaft balancer off the front of a engine I got tore down.By acsedent. Will a 2.8 work on the 3.1 block.would a 2.8 crank work on the 3.1 block if I used the 3.1 pistons. But mostly, will the 2.8 balancer take the place of the one that went to the recyclers

I'd wait for another to chime in but as long as the timing marks are the same, which im almost positive they are, Yes you can use the other balancer.

As for the pistons and crank, I think you have to match the pistons and the crank if you'd do something of that matter as The 3.1L is stroked version 2.8L So I think that clearences wouldnt be right at all. But Im no internal engine guide so what in saying may be completly wrong. And the 3.4L is a bored out version of the 3.1L. Correct me if I got the 2 messed up.

Re: 3.1 balancer?

The dampers and heads are totally interchangeable. NO differences. Why couldn't you do your own research? Took me one minute on RockAuto.com to see that both dampers have the same part number. And the heads being identical is a matter of common knowledge.

Oh yea, you can put the heads on it with not problems whatsoever.

Re: 3.1 balancer?

never heard of rock auto for starters! I apresheate your helpful knoledge. But dont need to be put down. In 1976 in basic training they told us the only dumb question is the one not asked.I've been a carpenter most of my adult life.Started doing somthing different buy learning about 3rd gens.I enjoy it.With the help of tgo and mostly v6 board i've done a 3.4 swap.changed fuel pumps and other things.every once in a while somone would make a nasty coment.we all have one thing in comon on tgo.we like our cars.Thankyou once again for your help.Keep up the good work!

You aren't even trying, and that is to be harped upon. Never heard of RockAuto? So what? Works the exact same on AutoZone.com, napaonline.com, oreillyauto.com, et cetera. You're just being pedantic, and you're asking us to figure things out for you instead of doing your own research. In the future, you'll find friendlier help and less grief if you bring us your own conclusions and ask us if they're correct, rather than simply asking us to give you answers you should be finding for yourself. There are no new problems your car can have, everything that can go wrong has already been covered before, the answers are all ready to be found. I am a nice guy for giving you help you haven't earned, and for explaining this for you. It's like having another kid do your school homework for you. Nobody respects the kid who can't do his own homework.
