Throttle body question

I bought a throttle body in which the idle screw hasn't been punched out. My tach is reading around 1,000 in drive. I am not sure if the tach is inaccurate but my previous throttle body was at 750 in drive warm.

My question is, does anyone know if all the preset idle screws (not punched) are the same distance on all the 2.8 throttle body's? and do you think I should leave the new throttle body in place with the higher idle (not punched)? (The throttle body I purchased has been cleaned spotless)

I see the idle is set so the throttle body butteryfly is flush with the little slit above it.

really? seems kind of weird.....because even on my old throttle body when I would raise or lower the screw it would 100% change the engine RPMs...that doesn't seem right...if your opening the butterfly it should raise the idle..

As of right now the in car tach says 1000 RPMs warm in drive, and the old throttle body said 750 warm in drive.

Re: Throttle body question

i just bend the lil tab that hits the screw to set the throttle blades, so much easier then knocking out the cap

What? Why would I knock out the cap...it's factory stock...I bought it because it was stock. I was just wondering if this sounds normal.

Why would you bend the tab...at that touch the idle screw at all...

I thought you shouldn't need to touch that screw, because if it isn't idling right it is because of something else.

Re: Throttle body question

same way the engine can rev up and down on its own when its cold, yet no parts of the throttle moves, id perfer a good 1000+rpm warm idle with a stick shift. [what I was trying to acomplish when I played with it.]

Even my motorcycle is like that 1000-1200rpm when warm, to keep the engine as close to possable to min take off speed, so I can be easy on the clutch and gas and not have it fart n die.
