swapping a 3800 V6 in place of the 2.8L in an 82 camaro
I wanna swap a 3800 from a 97 camaro into my 82 camaro due to being unable find a decent V8 and a manual trans when a 3.8 popped up for $250 and a T5 for the V6 for $100. I wanna know if someone makes a motor mount to bolt the 3800 in the car and where I can get it. or would I be able to make adapters to put 3800 engine mounts from a 4th gen in the 82?

Not worth it. That swap is pretty much the same as a V8. Plus, those 3800s are junk. You'd be better off with a V8, or putting boost on a stock thirdgen V6.
That's just me, but there's no aftermarket for that swap into our cars, so you'd be making a lot of parts.

Thats a hard swap to complete. The labor is intense as a V8 swap. Have to fabricate alot of your own pieces to make that swap.
But if your a real V6 head then best of luck man!!

yes I know it's hard to do. besides the originial engine is all ready been torn out. it has no wiring except for the head lights, and taillights. I'm doing a swap for the 3800 because thats what I have. besides my 97 camaro base coupe I have with the 3800 V6 with the 5 speed is blowing the doors off some of the Mustang GTs. and since the 82 is lighter because it has no interior whatsoever and I wanna save my money for a new rear end I wanted this setup so it'd last longer and I'd be able to save up for a stronger differental.

1: if you think the 3800s are junk why are you even in the V6 section?

I know theres a couple ppl on this board that have swaped in 3.8 buicks... im no 90* engine guy so im not sure what the differences but hopefully one of those guys chimes in.
Re: swapping a 3800 V6 in place of the 2.8L in an 82 camaro
If you can pull it off you will love the 3800, I have a 97 camaro with it, but try and get 3.42 gears when you swap.
I drove a 3800 with base gears but bought the 97 with the 3.42's, they run pretty good. Will give any TPI 305 a good hard run.

My buddys got a 3.8 2001 camaro. Runs high 15's(15.60's i think was his best) at the track with exhaust mods, LCA, automatic, eaton LSD. Nice lil engine though.
Heres a vid of us. Look at that horrid red light I had(this was like the first months I had a turbo)...lol

I think a Grand national variant would be interesting or a super charged variant. I have always liked the buick 3.8, mine is at 155k miles and the motor aside from two alternators and 1 tune-up and radiator hoses has had no other work done to it. They are a pretty reliable engine, however be prepared for a electronic nightmare, my car for instance uses 4 o2 sensors.
comparred to a 2.8/3.4 there is no comparisson, the 3.8 makes 200hp which by yesterdays standards is what yesterdays V-8's made.
fuel economy wise mine always averages around 25.5mpg at each fill-up
Good motor if you can succeed with the swap!

The amount of time and $ to make a TT LLT 5th gen engine work would be amazingly high. But damm would it be a sweet thing to see.

Yea I will agree the newer llt engines are impressive. 300Hp stock v6 is cool. Definitly. But toss a turbo on the ole 2.8L/3.1L/3.4L and your right there too for a much lower cost.

Been there, done that. who says it's labor intensive? biggest issue is splicing in thw guages. get the vats and rear O2 sensors programmed out along with speed limiter. Pics of my swap on my cardomain page. Also, who ever says the 3800 is junk is an idiot.

The 3800 isnt junk, its just for the amount of time and effort, why not just boost the stock engine up? It is easier and capible of major power also. But I personally think for the time and effort in that build Id rather boost the 660 as I did or dump a V8 in. Im bias twards the 660 though...lol

i say if your not looking for all out power stay with in the gm v6 be it a 90* or a 60*. Me im going 3800gtp ill be one maybe the first to do it in a 3 gen and i think a whipped 3800 would be bad ***, and for something im not going to race all the time whats the point of a v8? right? sucks to see so little 3.8/3800 love that motor will soon be forgotten in time what a shame.

fixed home page link. also, coamaros sould be able to use the straight upper intake manifold, birds need the angled ones due to the hood slope. an L67 w/f-bod upper intake, centrifugal s/c and a 5sp (gott find a tune for it) would be bad azz in a 3rd gen

Why cant you go for all out power with a 660 engine?? Theres a few on here that have/had some raw 660 setups including me IMO. But either way im am all for the V6;s. I love them to death weather its a 60 or 90 degree engine.
But a 3800 would be cool.

Re: swapping a 3800 V6 in place of the 2.8L in an 82 camaro
i didn't say you couldnt but were are big time out # by v8. And the ls1 swap count is growing fast what hurts the 60* is the lack for aftermarket support ,the 3800 has that over the 60* and even the old 3.8. but its starting to look like its group the ones that are into them is getting smaller two sadly, but this is bc the motor is now 20 year's old and the young guys are not seeing them its gen1 sbc or ls1 thats all i ever see anymore hints why i want to do a off the wall swap.and i just feel the 3.4l i have cant give me what i want and last .
