Engine is missing a LOT of power

Hey guys, I have noticed for a while now that my engines missing a lot of power. According to this website: http://www.060calculator.com/ I have only about 70 to 80 horsepower. I have already replaced the spark plugs and the wires, the coolant temperature sensor, And the oxygen sensor. The engine is definitely running smoother now, but it still feels like a lawn mower engine when I need power.

Do you guys have any idea what could be causing that much of a power loss?

Additional information: my engine is the 2.8 liter v6 version, and at the current moment I get about 24 miles per gallon on the highway. Thanks for the help.

um its a 2.8 r u sure ur just not used to driving something more modern with more power

mileage is a lil low but the engine could just be plain wore out

Well, you tell me. Those engines are supposed to be able to output around 130 horsepower and the car should be able to do a 0 to 60 in about 9 seconds. The fastest mine does it is 17 seconds which means that it's putting out only about 70 horsepower. What I'm wondering is which parts could be worn out and need replacing?

Re: Engine is missing a LOT of power

its not far off from were it should be , in good condition the car would run the 1/4 mile in the 18 second range

great condition 2.8's put down around 85-95 hp at the rear tires

that calculator gives u the wheel hp number not engine

edit though u were using a different calculator anyways for a stick car i get 9.6 seconds and auto car is 10.3 0-60

That is a really useful table. My transmission is a manual, so accounting for the slightly smaller engine, my car SHOULD still be able to do a 0 to 60 in under 11 ish seconds, but my car is up past 17 so something is screwy. Does anyone have any idea what the faulty part might be?

Re: Engine is missing a LOT of power

u need to do a few things like compression test , check out the ignition system, fuel system and go from there

i would start with a compression test

u could also pull all 6 spark plugs and see what they look like , they should be a nice light tan color

black means rich
black sooty means rich/oil fouling which would be bad rings or valve seals
white means lean

I already replaced the plugs and the wires. How do you do a compression test?

EDIT: oh I think I get what you're saying now about the plugs. I'll Check them later today.

Yeah, you've got a problem. My old 2.8 that was 175k+ miles and worn out did 0-60 in 12 seconds.

But I'd do like Project said, check compression, and all the other related componets.
