boging down

ok, i have had a few other threads and now im having a dif problem so im starting new...

the engine bogs down if you give it more than about 1/4 throttle.. once in a while , if i let it idle for a bit i can get it to climb fairly high in the rpm range without it bogging down, as long as you move slowly... and quick movements on the throttle will bog it out....hit the throttle hard? it cant keep up.. ...note .. the car is not derivable do to the excessive loss in power...but does idle nicely lol

Re: boging down

What have you checked so far? Have you checked your fuel pressure? A clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump can supply enough fuel to idle, but not much more. A bad FPR or injector(s) may do something similar. I've had bogging down problems which were partially related to a bad IAC. A bad ICM can also do strange things.

What repairs have you done in the past? For instance, if we know you installed a fuel filter recently, then we can eliminate that as the problem.

Try narrowing it down to fuel or electrical.

There is also a GM Bulletin on bogging down problems for '90-'92 3.1L engines. Is your car acting like this: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/v6/8...-you-have.html

Re: boging down

Great info. You might try pulling off the IAC valve and clean it up with Throttle cleaner. It should be 1 and 1/8 inch from the end of the pindle to the neck. Be careful removing the bolts, they break easy. You may want to use a light hammer to tap on the bolts to break them loose. Also, clean up the carbon inside the IAC connetion. See if that helps.

Are you getting good spark to the plugs. Have you pulled a couple out to see what they look like. Again, an ICM going bad can do screwy things. I'm sure some others with more expertise than me will add to your thread some other things to check out. Good luck. Hope you get it running soon.

Re: boging down

so i pulled the plugs again. first off , i put them side by side with the ngk plugs i have..the ngk plugs sit deeper into the cylinder.. the electrode at the end of the plug is longer, so im going back to the ngk plugs... and second... somthing doesnt look right, to say the least lol

the first picture is all the plugs next to eachother, the three on the right are from the passenger side, and the three on the left are the drivers side

these plugs have been in for two days and only run at idle... highest rpm seen is 2200

looks to me that the passenger side plugs aren't getting much fuel?

Re: boging down

What kind of plugs are those? They almost look like platinum ones. Id use nothing but Ac Delco R43ts or R44ts for your application. There less exspencive and are what is suppose to be in there IIRC. I've always ran Ac Delcos in my Camaro.
