Turbo sizes
I was just wondering, what are you guys running for turbos and what specs do they have? I want to get an idea of what I am looking for in terms AR and trim levels.
And also, what rpm do you get to before the boost really starts kicking in. The reason I ask this is that I want to be able cruise around in town if I want and don't want it to be in full boost so it jumps all over the place.
Thanks, Drew

ebay t3/t4 hybrid .63 hotside .50 cold 57mm unit is a great street unit( ebay unit is about 150 bucks )
the ebay or real gt3582 with a .63 turbine is a great street / race turbo and will make mor epower at lower boost then the 57mm ( ebay gt3582 is about 230 bucks)
if u want to stick with the t series a t61 60-1 is also just as good as a gt3582 just a lil less efficiant , i have a geniuine garrett t61 with an .84 x turbine on my car
anything between 55 to 66mm compressor will work well , with the t66 being more of a drag then street turbo

Re: Turbo sizes
ok thanks, helps out a lot. just want to start researching before I get started. How much do garretts usually cost and how much better are they than an ebay t3/t4?

Re: Turbo sizes
the garret unit is more efficiant then the same in an ebay unit , but to buy a garrett t61 u would spend 650-850 bucks
the ebay gt3582 is a 61mm compressor and will make a ton of power, i use ebay turbos on alot of my stuff and have never had a failure , fast eddi is currently using a gt3582 on his v6 and he can tell u hos much more power it makes over the 57mm
the gt3582 is making the more power at 10 psi then the 57 made at 18+ psi
if i were u i would just put a ebay gt3582 on it if this is ur first turbo build ur more then likley going to blow up the engine at some point which could take out the turbo , so buy a cheap one to start with and then u can always upgrade later

Re: Turbo sizes
Dave said it already but the Godspeed Gt3582 is a good turbo. Its what i run and i like it alot. About 275 bucks shipped to the door. It seems like the price has went up in the link below but the turbo has gave me nothing but a smiling face...
The t3/4 57mm i had is junk compared to the 3582 i have now. Light and day difference. The 3582 is a .70ar on the cold side and a .83 on the hot side. Spools pretty good with a somewhat low boost threshold. I run 12-13 psi and lay down 13 flat or a tad lower in the 1/4 mile. It can push a good amount of efficient air. The biggest thing that i like over the t3/4 to43 style one i had before is the amount of boost i had to run to get power. The hybrid was a quick spooling turbo but i had to run way too much boost to make good times. Its uneffficent as can be once you start eating up too much air. So for the V6 thirdgens id go with the goodspeed GT3582 or a garret alike.
It all depends on what you want to spend but for a entry level cost turbo the godspeed is definitely decent.

Re: Turbo sizes
thanks fasteddi, How long do those ebay turbos usually last because maybe I could start out with a t3/t4 just to get the hang of things until it dies and then I can uprgrade.

Re: Turbo sizes
the t3/4 would probly last awhile. I cant say for sure project89 would know better then me. I probly only put 2k miles on the t3/4 but they were some hard miles. I drag race the car almost ever weekend durring the season. But you do get what you pay for so if you get 10k miles out of it i think its well worth the 125 bucks or so for the hybrid ebay one.
