3.1 v6 Shifting Problems

So I took my car to some mechanic to get my leaking rear drum cylinders "replaced". He tore everything down but could not get the cylinder out because of the lock ring. Told him to just put everything back together and I checked to see if everything was good. Everything looked ok. 30 minutes later it starts revving up to 3k rpm and then shifting hard and sometimes feels like it slips but it doens'nt go into neutral. Just horrible high rev shifting with a kick. #1 lesson to be learned here is Don't let noboby work on your thirdgen do it yourself. Only thing I can think of is he jacked the car up from the differential and maybe dented it or bended it somehow causing the problem. Before this my 3.1 shifted nice and smooth and on time. Is it time for a new trans or diff? Could it maybe be the trans cable? But I dont understand why the problem didnt appear instantly instead of 30 minutes later . Any suggestions?
