T56 may just be a possibility
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=51868
check out my post in the tranny section
in it, i have calculated final drive ratios on a T5 equipped with a stock 3.42 rear gear and a 4.11 rear
then i calculated what gear would be needed to run a T56 at comparable final drive ratios (that is the tranny gear you are in multiplied by the rear gear)
a T5 with a 3.42 is comparable to a T56 with a 4.72
a T5 with a 4.11 is comparable to a T56 with a 5.89
with the 5.89 T56 we would barely lose any overdrive as compared to a T5 with a 3.42......................
see where i am going with this?????????!
now, i have learned of an adapter plate to bolt up a T5 bellhousing to a T56.....................
that would mean we would need a little bit of a shorter drive shaft.............not that big of a deal............
and we would need a crossmember that Spohn sells
and to replace the hub on our stock clutches with a 26 (?) spline one.........
and we can have V6's with 6 speed gearboxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in all honesty, i was seriously ready to order a 350 crate engine, but since i also want an IROC and have just gotten out of debt i think i will:
1) buy another camaro with a V8
2) stuff a 3.4 under my current hood
3) put a T56 in with the 3.4
these are my goals for this following year............................
it would make the most sense to get another camaro first so i have a car to drive when i am doing my 3.4 and T56 swap, so i must do that first
but as soon as that is done...........watchout!!!!!

how does everything sound grammy????????
i NEED another car though first, so i'm honestly looking for sorta a beater camaro that might need some work.....................so then once i get this one done i can start work on that one................
did you see them final drive ratios on the T56 with the 5.89 rear???
thats like having 5 underdrives and an overdrive
all nice and close ratios that will make for some really serious acceleration!!!!!!!!!! coupled with a centerforce clutch.................................
damn......... i mite let the 3.4 wait and just do the 6 speed first......................

Dude, that sounds nice. If i had my firebird, i would have been working on a bellhousing for it already! i personally dont think it will be too hard, but remember to reinforce where u have to drill and also to get the clutch to work ull have to drill the flywheel.
All in all it is easy. Although.....off topic here. About the 3.4L with nitrous reaching 350hp it would be alot better and more fun to slap on a turbo setup. Nitrous has its downsides and as a main one that makes me think twice is you will have a pretty slow car (if you plan on hanging with the big guys) but if you wanna mess around with C4 vettes and some stock 93 Zs then yea it would be fun to have a nitrous setup but you gotta think. Nitrous is a temporary thing. When you run out you dive back down to 250hp or whatever you had. Thats gonna suck! All I am saying is for the same amount of money you can have you a turbo setup that would be evil and you would be making around 400hp with good tuning and a good turbo. Only thing to look out for is lag. But the good thing about boost is its always there. I would def think about turbo setup before I would think about nitrous. But thats just me... Anyways, back on topic. Yes the T56 will work with minor mods and yes you will be able to use 6th gear quite alot. from about 60mph up... maybe even 55mph. All in all the 6 speed is a good idea and you will gain power with the better ratios.

hey monkie
yeah the nitrous and 250 HP was a thing of the past
check the date on that post
being in auto school i've learned alot since then
nitrous is out of the question right now
i may consider a turbo if the price is reasonable
hmmmmmmmmmmm a turbo 3.4 6 speed camaro supercar............
but i figure i only really care about my final drive ratio in 6th for gas mileage
for me to get this off the ground and flying, i need to find a cheap beater f-car, save about another $2000, swap in a posi/disc rear that will accept such a low gear such as a 5.89, and have even more money ready for when i need to buy a 3.4 engine, which i will be purchasing brand new
i think i know what my new year's resolution is gonna be
and yes, i know an auto would be better for a turbo, but i dont care
