3.4 swap?

Hey everyone.

I have a 3.4 4th gen donor that I might shred. Can I swap engine, trans, rear end and wiring loom wholesale into a 3rd gen?

Thanks in advance!

Yss although the rear end will be wider than the factory rear.

Yes I’d read that. Do you know exactly how much wider they are?

Re: 3.4 swap?

About 2 or 3 inches you can use the third gen rear the drive shafts are the same. Also if I remember correctly if you get 4th gen rims the issue goes away.

Re: 3.4 swap?

You need to swap the speedo gear, 2.8 is cable, 3.4 is electronic.
You'll be fine as long as you swap the engine and trans together. If you start trying to mix a 3rd gen engine and 4th gen trans (or vice versa), that's when you run into issues.
Are you trying to change over the PCM and everything as well? That may be a bit tougher to make it work with the rest of the car, since a 4th gen has a BCM, etc.

the plan is to swap everything; loom included. So I’m only using the frame and panels of the 3rd gen.

Re: 3.4 swap?

You'd still have to swap the speedo gear on the trans to the cable so it works with your cluster. Dash will take some splicing to get the gauges to work with your new engine/sensors, but should still work. I'll keep thinking, but nothing else is standing out as an issue other than time to splice some things here and there.

Or are you swapping interior as well?

I think you’re missing the point of ‘everything’! Haha! I mean the Camaro is going to be a shell. With panels. Everything is coming from the 4th gen. seats, trim, dash, clocks, carpets, electrics, trans, motor, loom, rear end. Everything!

Re: 3.4 swap?

if I was going to swap in a fourth gen rear, i'd get one with disc brakes. I'd also pick a manual V8 car that had 3.42s in it.
