Running temp?

hey guys, so I’ve been doing so reading on the running temp of the 1987 2.8 MPFI v6 and what temp the fans turn on. Idk the running temp but I’ve read the fans turn on at around 235? That seems a bit high to me. Can anyone confirm or deny this I really need the info!! Running temp? And what temp the fans SHOULD turn on at? Thank you so much!

Re: Running temp?

That's correct, fan comes on around 235. Factory running temp is around 210-220 with a 195 t-stat. I used to run a 180 t-stat to keep it a bit lower. Seemed to run a bit better too.

Re: Running temp?

If you are worried you can get a SW555 (89 turbo trans am) fan switch 211F try rock auto and a 180 stat. They should keep everything nice and cool. I would not go any cooler than that also don't put the fan on temp too close to the thermostat.

Are you sure you are not confusing the temp sender with the fan switch? The temp sender has a single blade the fan switch does not. Either way rock auto has you covered.

Re: Running temp?

Sounds like you have the wrong connector. What you posted only controls the gauge not the fan. Either you are looking at the wrong sensor or someone modesm your car a bit because getting the right one was too difficult for them
