I don't know how to get it inside, and once I do, where should I put it? My ashtray is out because cupholders are going there...

Well? What do you think? How do I get it in?

well, first determine the size vacuum line you want to run. Then decide soft rubber type, nylon ect. If you go nylon you will most likely have to drill a hole to run it into the cabin. I would suggest running the line to the firewall, follow the firewall to the transmission tunnel and have it come through at that point. The line would be shielded from alot of the under hood heat(Depending on how you ran it) and it would be outta the way(and not have alot of extreme bends).Once you brought it through the trans tunnel to the underside of the center console you can run it ANYWHERE you wanted.
If you had a clear spot to run it straight through the firewall to behind the dash go for it. But I am not sure what things are right up against the firewall so you would have to look to make sure the spot was clear.

My car already had a hole drilled in it on the opposite side of the blower motor (aka Driver's side) for an amp wire, so I ran it through there. For the mounting...I mounted mine to the right of the radio...sometimes the passenger's leg hit it, but screw the passenger, it's for you.

Well, I need to mount it semi-close to a light that is operated by the dimmer switch... this guage is lightable and I'm going to splice in a light fixture to light the guage at night... I'm also conserned about interrior appearance... I don't exactly want to have wires and lines running around all over, I don't want it to look sloppy...

The interrior isn't very forgiving for mounting stand alone sh*t like this...

I was thinking of mounting it to the right side of the defroster switch, but that surface is curved, and I'd have to worry about all the crap that is beind there...

Underneath the center vents would be a great place, only I don't want to have to hide wires and lines -inside- my air vents... plus I don't even know how to get that section of the car out to rig a way to hide it...

What about mounted from the roof, next to the rearview... but no dimmer lights... :sigh:

Ahh!

I have the a-pillar pod (dual gauge), and it's perfect.

I'd suggest drilling the hole on the driver's side, below the relay bracket on the firewall. There's a lot of wires there that you can use as "guides" to drill a new hole. Also, look closely- you might find a hole covered over by a plug- knock the plug into the engine compartment with a hammer & punch from under the dash, and you'll have a hole.

This is how I did mine on my 1985 Firebird.
I'll visit my car & then get back.
Details-
I am using a Edelbrock Digital Vacuum gauge
It's height is less than an inch and the width is about 1 1/2".
It's deep.
I have it mounted in the removable pod panel on my 1985 firebird dash, driver side, right above my left knee.
It's on the same level as the FIREBIRD rear window defroster push buttons.
I have my line spliced at the vacuum canister, located RIGHT ABOVE THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER, firewall.
I inserted a "T" fitting.
I drilled my hole for the firewall where the RELAYS AT THE DRIVE SIDE, windshield base, where the cables/wires go thru.
Actually, I drilled slightly closer to the fender, to avoid damaging the wiring harness!!
Poked the hose thru (added silicone to cushion protect hose from cuts scrapes, LEAKS!!), connected, to gauge, tested.
To the dash.
I removed my cover on the driver side (FIREBIRD ONLY FOR SURE) right above my knee. I inserted the small digital gauge. Secured with duct tape (it works for me!!) on backside & reassembled dash.
Daytime, I cannot see/read my gauge, as the bright day, obscures my electric reading (so bright, washes out reading).
AT NIGHT TIME, it's primo.
Really lets ya know how to control, increase your gas milage.
You'll be amazed at all this simple gauge can tell ya about you're ride!
My current vacuum reading at idle is 16-18 inches.
Again, I have small narrow deep electric reading numerical gague. By Edelbrock
I paid $1 swap meet, brand new, in box!

I'm going to get the Sunpro 3 guage pod... it mounts flat... thats going above my radio and houses water and oil temp, and oil pressure...

then I'm going to get the Autometer guage pod, mount the vacuum and see if I can't find a 2" tach to fit in it...

In my Camaro I can run everything through the firewall right next to where the hood release cable runs...

If I can ever get this frustration out... I might actually go out and buy the stuff to do it... but it's going to have to wait until I have more money... grr.... thanks for your help guys... it seemed impossible until I actually went out and looked, now I know I can do it but it's still going to be a PITA....

later
