AIR System Delete.

Hello new member here. I'd like some help with deleting my AIR system.

I have a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro Sport. With a 2.8L 5 Speed Manual transmission.

I took off part of the AIR system from driver side exhaust. I plugged the holes but for some reason the engine had a hard time starting. Like it was being robbed of oxygen.

I took it off because it the old hose rubber hose melted and it melted a lot of my wires.

Part of AIR system from driver side I removed.

Holes I plugged from removed AIR system.

Connection where the hose melted.

It shouldn;t have affected anything really...perhaps its a coincidence that you took it off and then the car is not hard to start?

They're on the exhaust side, I can't see them really causing any issues running. Did you possibly bump a plug wire off while doing so? I'd imagine that's pretty hard to do, but I wouldn't rule it out.

I checked but I don't think so, but I can check again.

But when I take out one of the plugs it starts up but whistles when loudly from the open exhaust hole.

I don't know, but when I do take one of the plug holes out of the exhaust it runs but whistles.

Ya want my wild assed guess? I'm thinking maybe your exhaust system is clogged somehow, clogged catalytic converter, madly bent exhaust pipe, dead rat in the muffler, those sorts of things

I agree with orange bird... if its runnng with the plugs removed then exhaust is coming out from there allowing it to breathe......

SOunds like maybe you got a restricted exhaust or clogged cat etc...

Clogged honey comb.

Yeah it was the cat converter. It was super clogged. I just cut a hole in the bottom. Cleaned out the honey comb and weld the bottom back on.
