My air pump seized and I am not replacing it. I read almost all the posts here for air pump delete and while I know what's involved to remove it, I have no idea how to route the new belt once the smog pump is gone. Looking at the original serpentine belt routing I cannot just simply bypass the air pump pulley. I am assuming that a new routing will have to be done which I think will reverse the water pump operation (see the photo below). Does anybody have a routing diagram for the 3.1 engine without the air pump? Also, is the 915K6 belt a correct one for the 3.1 with AC but without smog pump?
Well, I haven't figured out how to rout the belt without the air pump, so after a small modification and weight reduction, the air pump acts now as a pulley so I can use the stock belt and stock routing.
As long as the back of the drive belt is against the water pump pulley, it is turning the same direction. Which is true for both belt routing you show...

RBob.
You are totally right about the rotation direction. Somehow, I missed that when I was drawing the new routing in red. I already bought a new belt (standard length) and using the air pump just as a pulley but may revisit that in the future as I think my A/C doesn't work and I may remove it as well.
