Hello.
What are the normal values that the 3.1 has in the smoog tests if the catalyst does not work or if it is empty? And which ones with a correct catalytic converter ?
thanks

Do you have high nox ? Your local test facility should tell you the acceptable amount for your county.

Re: smog test values

Hello. I'm writing from Spain. Here the maximum allowed is C0 0.5 if it is catalyzed. Or the amount declared by the manufacturer. And the garage tells me that this car has a much higher value. I have a 3.1 v6 but the hood is from a 5.0 and it has this sticker. It only says that it complies with the EPA regulations, but it doesn't say the value. Without a catalytic converter it gave me CO 3.5 and I don't know if I have to improve it before putting in the new catalytic converter.

Re: smog test values

The 3.1 was not installed in 1986, so the sticker has no meaning. An 86 with 3.1 might still be tested a 2.8 unless an engine changeover is reported to the state. My (U.S. relevant) statements may not mean anything in Spain. I can tell you what my 305 engines' CO test results have been, but I don't know if 3.5 is high for 86 or 92 without a reference.

Re: smog test values

Is the 0.5 CO a percentage or gm/km or something else for your test?
An 87 third gen would be subject to dyno roller testing in Maricopa County Arizona U.S. and the limits would be
HC grams/mile: 1.60
CO grams/mile: 15.00
NOx grams/mile: 2.50
I don't think it will help, but I hope you get success in testing.

Re: smog test values

Hello. Yes, CO 0.5 is the %. The test in Spain is with the car stopped. A probe is placed in the tailpipe and they measure the % of gases with the engine idling and accelerating. and the value of the lambda probe. Thanks
