I'm confused; you didn't install it? Why would you want to see dirt on it? That means you have to clean it... or is this a joke and I'm missing it?

no no i meant by installing the K&N i would expect more air flow and thus seeing more dirt on the filter which tells me alot of air is going through.....

maybe he just wants a piston w/a hot spot, crumbled piston after that, & an excuse to rebuild/replace the motor?

I hear ya.
I modified my air can lid on my 1985 Firebird.
Got nothing.
Opened the hood, adjusting up the hood bump stops, lowering the headlight assembly, finally it got dirty!!
It's not massive amounts but, I got in more air. That's all that mattered.
I've got another idea, up my sleeve, too.
Involves destroying a head light cover and cutting open under support bracing on my hood, for my mission.

Hood bump stops.
You've seen them!
Promise.
They are on the radiator core support, screw higher to raise the hood. Octagon shaped, one per side
I played with the nuts and such of the headlight assembly. I got it slightly lower.
I plan on cutting a large chunk of the hood support braces behind the headlight to allow more air into the box.
I plan on butchering a headlight door to provide more air, too.
I love pick your part!
