intermittent code 34...
MAF burnoff or a bad MAF... I thought these things just died, that they didn't get all retarded and -sometimes- work...
I'm hoping this is the reason why my car _S*CKS_ when it goes closed loop... once it warms up real nice on a warm day, it'll want to stall (and will stall in traffic... a real PITA), have no *****, ect...

After mine warmed up (last night freeway driving) the damn SES light lite up.
Drove home, ok (& didn't run outta gas, either THANKS G!).
After I filled it with some gas, it didn't come back on.
SO FAR!
Mine is underwarranty, so if it goes bye so does that & I get another.
Wish these rebuilt things owould last a bit longer.
Really racks my nerves.
I know what ya mean.
Keep MAS free from vibration to keep it from "flaky wires connection".
Best thoughts! I'm there again, too!

There's no such thing as a bad burnoff relay on our cars; our MAF's aren't of the Bosch hot-wire design like the V8 TPI's are. We have the AC frequency-film maf.
Oh and MAF's love to go flaky; it could be as simple as a bad connector to the MAF (I had that), or a bad MAF. There's the screwdriver test (tap w/screwdriver while engine running, if engine stumbles, bad MAF), the visual test (check for warped orange frequency film, should be perfectly flat) and the removal test (drive with MAF unhooked, if car acts perfect, MAF is bad). You can also search for my "Code 34 chart".
I picked up my latest (and lasting since '96) MAF from Strauss Auto for $80. I had to turn in my old one as a core, but it beats the dealer's $400 price tag.

I'll deal with it for now... it's funny, cause when I noticed the SES it was right after I started the car... I know it's supposed to be on and then go off, but it didn't... it has only come on twice and only after a start up... shut it off and start it back up and it's gone...
I think my ECM is dead... can someone gimme a diagnostics chart and tell me how to get at the damn thing?
FCK CCv's...
Fiream, I'll trade you my car for yours...

BUT, I'll still bet you have an 85 ECM there.
Kinda doubt it's an 86 ECM.
Mine actually came from a 85 Corvette.
NO PERFORMANCE GAAIN unless you count the fact that my car ran proper, finally.
My fan was constant on.
Changed the ECM and that problem went away.
Eventually was shown that my old ECM had a burnt circuit board. But the car ran, anyway.
