Overheating, Huge Problem!!!
Overheating, Huge Problem!!!
k heres the deal, i bough a beater 88 2.8 5sp.. Its got a new radiator, water pump, the hoes arent clogged, and i replaced the antifreeze and thermistat, then it over heated again, so i just took the thermistat out, and it still overheats, what the hell is the matter.

I would get a lower temp themistat and make sure it is in right then drian out the coolant because the inside of the engone could be dirty then run water through the radiator and let it flow through the engine to make sure it is clean.... I did this and it helped with the problems because I had so much crap in the engine. Also make sure your fan is coming on at about 220 degrees or a little over that.

Is this a recent problem or has it been overheating for a while.
I see in your sig that you worked your intake, did you have the problem before that.
Also does the camaro require the plastic air scoop under the car to catch air like the firebirds do.
does it overheat at highway speeds or idling.
Possible causes :
Blown head gasket
restriced air flow to the radiator
mismatched intake gasket where the gasket might be restricting the water jacket in the intake
scale or rust in the water jacket
cooling fan not working (if overheating at idle or slow speeds)
clogged catalytic converter or restriction in exhaust

ill check then fan tomorow, it better be either that or a cat, because i really dont feal like rippin this thing down or putting my spare 2.8 in. It only does it at low speeds.
Yup, the plastic air dam under the front end is a critical component of the cooling system. Nice catch, I can't
Because they hang so low, these things get busted all the time. They play an extremely important role in channelling the airflow to the radiator.

I live in Indiana and Oklahoma (away for college) so it gets hot and humid and sometimes I get REALLLLYYY nervous when when temp gauge start climbing, I noticed the when the radiator is not completly full that the engine gets really close to over heatinf but when its full to the cap it helps a lot.

Actually that little plastic thing is not needed IF YOU HAVE YOUR FAN WIRED ON WHEN IGNITION IS ON. But I wilkl bet yout fan is not coming on, my 91305 overheats in a matter of minutes sitting still, but then again its not daily driven(YET) and it has alot of probs.
well, the fan wasnt turning on but i took 12 volts to it and it worked, so my buddy hooked me up with a realy (he works at auto zone) because i diagnosed his 90 thunderbird for him(sucks it needs a pcm) but anywyas thanks guys
