Car starts, then dies , then crackling noise
I went outside just then to start my car , Lately I've been having trouble starting it in the morning and when its been sitting at school .But today I opened the hood and got out so I could listen real good .I started it , it died , then i could hear "crackling and a slight poping , it sounded like it was coming from the side of the motor where the coil is from .I don't know what else is on this side that is ignition , or if it is aynything that is ignition .Whats up with this ?

i just found something
I think I may need a new coil .I just took took the wire that goes from the coil to the cap off and something seemed loose .The black plastic at the bottem of the terminal has a crack in it (circular ) going around the terminal . and i can jiggle the brass terminal and it moves some ...this coil is only a year old .I prabably need a new one huh ? What do you guys think ?

Tom's not around on weekends; Tom sees enough of computers during the week to get his "fill" of 'em.
Was there a warranty on that coil? That sucks; you were probaby getting some major spark leak from that terminal. Maybe you want to get a coil that mounts elsewhere, instead of the engine, to replace this one? You can use the $20 MSD Blaster 2 (or Blaster 1 or Blaster 3) on our cars... you just need to modify the wiring harness.
If you want, I can tell you how. Just remember when you cut the factory connectors off, to leave a few inches of wire on 'em, and carry them in the car in case you ever have to go back to your original coil.

This kinda sucks , but its better than nothing . I have test this week and school , and art project I can't miss .When it comes to wiring , I know nothing at all .But , I know i can plug the direct fit blaster coil where it is placed on the same bracket again . I went ahead and bought that today at "THUNDER RACING" its about 20 min from my house . , even though i did not really want it , b/c if I break down at school or on the side of the road , i can just plug it in . Today I did not have time to work on it . I know taking the damn bracket off is not easy .But Im going to put alot of my tools in my car tonight ( well what I think I might need , incase it leaves me stranded .If the coil holds on till next weekend , I want to figure out away I can mount the coil I have now "MSD blaster gm plugin " on the back of the firewall by the distributor to keep it away from the heat and I think the wiring is long enough to reach over there to .I'll have to see what happens this week .I was thinking maybe I can even get one of those MSD brackets and mount it on the firewall , you know a bracket made for the tall blaster 2 . Or what do you have holding yours on ? Thanx Tom ! Im ganna go outside right now and turn off the carport light to see if I can see the spark coming out !
...Im not staying out there with these Louisiana mosquitoes and putting the new one in though .This should be interesting guys .

Also , I could not get over this price difference guys .
I went to PEP BOYS first .They did not have an MSD coil , but they had ACCEL , the direct plugin .It was $50.00 .I thought that was high .So I went down the road and threw the Industrialplex to "THUNDER RACING"
..They had the MSD the direct plug-in I got for $40.00 ! ...Hee , you should see "THUNDER RACING " .It's located in an Inudstrialplex .So you ride up in there , all the roads are pretty new and white .Then when you turn down the road where "THUNDER RACING " is there is all these burnout and posi -marks all over in the road and some of em are long !
Then when you drive past the shop areau where they do installations , there's alot of em heh ! They should re-name the street to BURNOUT AVN.
