ditching comp.. what needs to be done?!?

i tried to ask this in the electronics forum, but it seems like most of the ppl there dont really care bout stuff like this (that and its probably been asked 100 billion times there).. carb, dist, smog stuff all comp controlled?? anything else? what should i replace the parts with (what kinda carb? dist?).. is there anyway i can still make this smog legal without the comp?

Actually, there is a way
BUT YOU WOULD HAVE TO SELL THE BIRD!
Buy a 1982-85 FEDERAL VERSION S-10 Blazer 2.8/Auto 2wd.
Same drivetrain, no computer.
I know, I've got one!

Mike,
Seriously, the WISEST thing you can do is swap in a V-8.
But, you'll pay to get it certified by state before you smog it.
Work with smog laws, it's not that bad.
That's why I did a 3.4 swap.
It was the easy smog legal thing to do.
It works great!

So, I'm not the only one who want no computer. Here what I did. I got a 2BBL. Carb off ebay from an 82 s-10, I also got a vacuum advance distributor off an 82 blazer. I replace both the carb and dist. along with a new Edelbrock Intake. I also got rid of my smog pump, AIR exchange valve which eliminates the need for the AIR tube on the cat and the lines one the exhaust monifold. My timing is set at 14° ingnital without vacuum advance hooked up. With advance hook up i'm running 20° at WOT with no pinging. I gained about 25hp just from the swap. I'll upload pics on here if you want to see.

Good Luck,
Robert

Why would you want to ditch the computer? Just to put a 4barrel on? I dunno, I think you could get more power (and gas mileage as a bonus) by just working on your fuel injection system.

this would be on a 3.4.. i got the car finalty running halfway correctly, i think.. for now anyways (wil the slow a$$ 2.8).. i am goin to be doin a 3.4 swap this summer.. i know there is no way that the 4bbl intake will be smog legal (its non egr as far as i know).. manual choke 2bbl carb (holly 350cfm or 500cfm??) (would an electric choke carb work?), and vaccum adv dist will be needed.. what of the smog stuff is comp controlled?? is there anything else?? i know i could fool smog here that i dont need the comp (as long as everything looks "stock" under the hood)..

fiream - please upload pics.. i would defiently want to take a look at ur setup.. im guessin that u live in an area w/o smog? im thinking maybe the s-10 setup would work to pass cali smog?

Mike.
You know you won't get it passed.
you won't. they know what they are doing. I go to a guy that is real trustworthy and I cheat. But he knows what to look for and I can't chat.
Thtat's why I created my 3.4 swap project. Ultimate test was the smog test.
I fooled them, but EVERYTHING LEGALLY IS HOOKED UP.
If it's not hooked up, it better be buried under stuff and look correct.
You missing something, you're out.
Play it right and make it correct.
You'll win.
Again, that's why I did the 3.4 swap boogie.
I win in the smog war!
Again, Play it right and make it correct.

Oops, thanks! Okay, then he should switch to fuel injection! I think smog would notice the computer's missing; especially when they turn the key to "on" and no service engine soon light turns on. Unless of course, you rig some kind of relay to put the light on.

im probably wrong, but didnt the export 82-84 not have computers? i could probably get a smog certificate w/o even doing the smog test (i know way too many ppl that do illegal stuff like that).. oh well..

i know there has to be a "car" 83 and newer that had a 2.8 and no computer.. that would make it smog legal..
