swapping a 350 into an 88 SC
I've been searching the boards looking for info on a 2.8L-5.7L swap, but all I've found is info for carb'ed engines. I've got an 88 SC that I really like, so I'd rather swap in a new engine rather than buy a whole new car. My question is, is this do-able to a car w/ MPFI? I want to stay with fuel injection and I was thinking about just finding some junker z28 or whatever and swaping all the stuff I would need over from that (a local auto recycler regularly has 3rd gen camaros for $700-1k). If anyone has done or attempted or just plain laughed at the idea, please let me know. Thanks, Joe

Well, you'd have to do it ALL.
1. (obviously) Complete V8 (long block w/intake & motor mounts)& V8 trans, the rest of the drivetrain is the same
2. V8 radiator, accessory brackets, front springs (buy new lowering springs)
3. TPI (or TBI) wiring harness & computer
The wiring harness is the one that goes thru the firewall on the passenger side. You can find the pass-thru connector by removing the passenger side's front inner plastic fender. The passthru's held to the car by one U-shaped clip. Once you remove the clip, there's about a foot & a half of wires that go right to the ECM.
The rest of the car, except for any dashboard gauges, will be the same. If you have a V6 with a tach on the dash, it'll read " 25%fast", since it expects 6 pulses for 1 revolution, and you'll be sending it 8 pulses/1 rev. (Ex, 600 actual RPM = 800 tach RPM, 1000 engine RPM = 1250 tach RPM). I think Karl (KED85) has some data on the sensors' sending units for gauges. All the gauges should be pulled thru the driver's side pass-thru, as well as all the lights/blinkers, wipers, fuse panel power, and anything else not controlled by the ECM.
And then there's the tempation to strip/smooth & fill holes/prime/paint the empty engine compartment...
If you thru with it, take some pictures, and keep us posted on how it goes!

My brothers site is down often because Geocities is restricting transfer data amounts.
Anyway, we pulled out his MPFI v6 and installed a 350 TPI from an IROCZ.
We swapped everything from the IROC to his SC. We took the complete wiring harness and dash harnesses and installed them into the SC. This is the easiest way to do a TPI swap to into a MPFI car. You will be able to leave the Fuel pump in the tank because it is the same one used for the TPI setup.
Check out his webpage here.

I would highly recommend reading through all the information. There is not much TECH but the pictures do a lot of the talking.
If the site doesn't load I would recommend going back to it at a later point. It should be very insightfull

On your gauge panel
Tach, find a V-8 donor car, take teh V-8 tach circuit board.
Swap the six for the eight, at home.
Tach done
NEXT
OIL PRESSURE
6=80lb gauge reading.
8=60lb gauge reading.
Same idea. Swap oil presure units in the dash.
I did opposite for my V-8 dash to V-6.
These details minor compared to what ya seek to accomplish!
Check smog laws for any swap details (cost to recertify, etc...).
