cam choice

i have decided to get the GM performance(P/N 12364059) since it is the cheapest one that is almost exactly the same as the Crane 2030 and the Compcam one. and i am wondering if i should put new valve springs in at the same time or not. and if i dont put new ones in...can i put them in later without having to take teh whole engine apart??

You only need new valve springs if you change the rockers. Then get 105# springs...

Finally, some read about the 3.4 HO cam. $208? guess the price of the kit went up this last year . I was qouted $118 from Pace & Frank Z. oh well, more power to ya :hail:

order it from summit. Pay US prices... 169 or so. 89CamaroRSV6 got it. I think he paid around 180 something for everything including lifters.

if i order it from summit by the time i get it it cost double which means that it would be like $300 which is more than it is from GM. and this one comes with the lifters

lol dood,

i got the 2030 from summit...

it cost me 180 including a 180 thermostat..

teh kit came with lifters and assy lube...

if u are willing to wait a bit id say go to jcwhitney.com... call them and ask about the wolverine blue racer...

its only 119$ for a full kit and its same as 2030 except for more exhaust lift...

i still think 208 is too much for a cam...

I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU REBUILD YOUR HEADS!
Use new springs.
NEW GUIDES
Valve job (3-4 angle)
YOU WILL BE PLEASED.
You gotta do it.
Can get a set of fresh heads from a reputible head rebuilder.
See if he will let you watch your heads be rebuilt w/new springs installed.
Stronger the engine/cam, the quicker the old factory springs go.
It is the old GO Fast How Much game.
BUT for safety, do all at once.
Ya gotta.
Or ya will (possibly worse) later
For real
Plan it in your budget and be happier in the end.

get the springs recomended in the gmpp catalog. they're relativelycheap. when I was pricing the heads in the catalog( $295 bare for the iron heads ) the cam KIT was $118, & w/the new springs, locks & retainers, it cam close to $260. I wrote prices in the catalog, which is at the house now.
